Tijuana Prepares For Heavy Rainfall And Cool Temperatures

Authorities issue warnings and safety recommendations as storms approach Tijuana.

Residents of Tijuana are being advised to prepare for adverse weather conditions as heavy rainfall is anticipated starting Wednesday, March 5, 2025. The municipal authorities have issued warnings highlighting the need for vigilance, particularly among vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, and individuals with disabilities.

According to weather forecasts, Tijuana is expecting rain with an 80% probability during the afternoon and evening on the 5th, with temperatures fluctu ranging from 10 to 18 degrees Celsius. Citizens should brace for worsening conditions on Thursday, March 6, when the temperature is set to plummet to as low as 9 degrees Celsius, accompanied by winds reaching speeds between 15 to 30 kilometers per hour.

The Civil Protection Director of Tijuana, Jos0 Luis Jimnez Gonzlez, urged residents to exercise caution when driving in the rain, advising against crossing rivers or flooded roadways, whether on foot or driving. "Stay away from low-lying areas which can be prone to flooding," he said.

The Municipal Civil Protection is presently engaged in monitoring areas at risk, ensuring readiness to respond to emergencies as they arise. They have recommended special precautions, including keeping pets indoors and using heaters carefully to avoid fire hazards. Residents are also encouraged to report any hazardous situations such as ground cracks or structural weaknesses by calling the emergency number 9-1-1.

On March 6, the city's skies are expected to remain cloudy, and light rains will persist. The day will start with temperatures around 8 degrees Celsius, climbing to 15 degrees Celsius by the afternoon. Accuweather reports indicate there is now 100% probability of rain, coupled with 96% humidity, contributing to potentially uncomfortable conditions with water accumulation.

The winds on March 6 will average around 18 km/h but could gust up to 46 km/h, making for difficult walking and driving conditions. Residents are advised to plan their clothing carefully, opting for lightweight long-sleeve shirts and jackets to keep warm and dry.

Meanwhile, those using public transportation should stay informed about potential route changes and delays due to the weather. It’s prudent to allow additional travel time during this period.

The notice also highlights the importance of avoiding indoor heat sources like gas stoves or electric heaters when not attended, as unattended devices can lead to fire accidents or poisoning.

While the rains are beneficial for the region's agriculture, the city is on high alert for flooding, bringing with it the risk of accidents and other disruptions. Tijuana officials remind the public to stay informed through local government channels for updates on the developing situation.

Historically, rainfall patterns here can yield unexpected conditions, prompting safety measures to protect both life and property.

With March being prone to unpredictable spring weather variations, authorities encourage residents to keep abreast of any warnings or advisories from meteorological services.

By ensuring thorough preparations and attentive measures, Tijuana's community can navigate the weather changes more safely and effectively.

Tijuana's residents are urged to take seriously the recommendations for heavy rains, especially concerning safety precautions.
