Three women were arrested on Saturday afternoon after fleeing deputies and crashing their vehicle against a power pole in Evans, Georgia. According to reports from the Columbia County Sheriff's Office, the incident began around 4 p.m. when deputies were dispatched to Marshalls at Mullins Crossing to investigate a shoplifting incident.
Witnesses at the scene observed the three women stealing items from the store and immediately reported the theft to law enforcement. When deputies located the women’s vehicle parked outside another store, they attempted to approach them. But instead of cooperating, the women fled, setting off a chase.
The stolen vehicle sped east on Washington Road, but their escape soon took a turn for the worse. Upon reaching the intersection of Washington Road and Old Evans Road, the driver lost control, resulting in the car crashing violently against a power pole.
According to WRDW/WAGT, all three women exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot but were apprehended by deputies shortly thereafter. Fortunately, the incident did not involve any other vehicles, and there were no reported injuries to law enforcement personnel or civilians.
At approximately 5:20 p.m., local utility provider Georgia Power confirmed there were no service outages due to the crash. Officials expressed relief over the lack of injuries but emphasized the serious nature of the women’s actions.
This incident serves as yet another reminder of the risks associated with fleeing from law enforcement. When individuals choose to evade the police, the potential for dangerous outcomes increases significantly—not only for themselves but also for uninvolved motorists and bystanders.
The Columbia County Sheriff's Office continues to urge community members to report any suspicious activity and not to hesitate to cooperate with law enforcement officials. The women involved now face serious legal consequences stemming from their choices during this event.
