Three Teens Killed And One Injured After Tesla Cybertruck Crash

Speed is suspected as officials probe the cause of the deadly accident involving longtime friends

Early on the morning of November 27, just before Thanksgiving, three young adults tragically lost their lives in a fiery crash involving a Tesla Cybertruck on Hampton Road and King Avenue in Piedmont, California. The incident shocked the local community, as all three were college sophomores and longtime friends who had just spent time together at an event.

Jack Nelson, Soren Dixon, and Krysta Tsukahara, all aged 19, were identified as the crash victims. According to their families, they were returning home after enjoying the night out when their vehicle unexpectedly veered off the road. Reports indicated the SUV jumped the curb, struck a cement wall, and finally crashed head-on with a tree before erupting in flames after the impact, leaving little chance of survival.

The fourth occupant of the vehicle, 20-year-old Jordan Miller, was remarkably rescued by another driver who was behind them during the crash. He sustained serious injuries, suffering severe burns, and was reportedly undergoing surgery as of Saturday morning. His mother, Samantha Miller, expressed her heartbreak and the collective grief felt by their community over the devastating loss of young lives.

Before the crash, police are investigating whether excessive speed may have played a role. Piedmont Police Chief Jeremy Bowers confirmed they are probing this angle, as well as other possible factors. It appears the Cybertruck crashed at high velocity, burning so brightly when law enforcement arrived on the scene, the flames were twice as high as the vehicle itself.

Both Nelson and Dixon had attended Piedmont High School, where they played on the lacrosse team. Following graduation, Nelson enrolled at the University of Colorado, and Dixon attended the University of Southern California. Tsukahara was studying at the Savannah College of Art and Design, and she was also deeply mourned by her peers.

It has emerged from the investigation so far, authorities don't suspect mechanical failure, and the Cybertruck has been seized for examination to see if any potential issues could shed light on the events leading to the tragic accident. Tesla has had its share of recalls this year, with over 27,000 vehicles recalled due to problems with rear camera visibility and other safety concerns including faulty gas pedals. But police reiterated there was no immediate evidence the vehicle's battery or electrical systems were to blame for this incident.

The tight-knit community of Piedmont has come together to mourn this devastating event, with friends and family lighting candles and leaving flowers beside the car crash site. A candlelight vigil held at Piedmont Park attracted many residents wanting to pay their respects, showcasing the weight of grief permeated through this suburban town.

During the vigil, friends shared heartfelt memories of the victims, emphasizing the bright futures they had before them. Nelson's friend, Wendell Laidley, remarked on Nelson's charismatic spirit, saying he was someone who radiated kindness wherever he went. "It’s just an unspeakable tragedy. Life is precious, and we have to cherish it," he shared. The emotional toll echoed throughout the community, with many expressing disbelief and sorrow at the sudden loss of such young lives.

Mayor Jen Cavenaugh spoke publicly about the tragedy, stating, "For families who lost those so precious to them, there are no words to capture the depth of their sorrow." She urged everyone to cherish their loved ones as the effect of this loss ripples through families and friendships.

While investigations remain underway to determine the precise causes of this heartbreaking crash, locals are left grappling with their grief as they reflect on the bright futures of the lost friends. A Thanksgiving event, typically filled with joy and togetherness, has instead turned to moments of sorrow as families and friends come to terms with what they have lost.

The community of Piedmont has shown its resilience and unity during this tough time, with residents offering support to one another. They have come together not only to honor the lives of those lost but also to uplift the survivor, Jordan Miller, as he navigates his recovery and process of healing.

Each candle lit and flower laid at the site tells the story of friendships forged and memories cherished—that this community is one woven tightly together by love and compassion, standing strong even through heartbreak.
