Edward Louis Ramirez, Jr., 76, passed away peacefully on March 19, 2025. Born in New Orleans on August 12, 1948, to Edward and Doris Ramirez, "Eddie" attended Jesuit Preparatory School of Dallas and then studied accounting at the University of North Texas while serving in the United States Marine Corps Reserve during the Vietnam War. He married the love of his life, Kathy Tennison, in 1969.
Though Dallas was home for more than 60 years, Ed held tight to his New Orleans roots, never missing a chance to visit his beloved hometown. Ed began his CPA career at Price Waterhouse before moving into the oil and gas industry, where he rose quickly through the ranks to be named CFO of Nexen Petroleum USA in 1980, a position he held until retirement 31 years later. He was the youngest CFO in company history.
In retirement, he served on the board at Jesuit Montserrat Retreat House and as an emeritus board member for the Parkland Foundation. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Doris Ramirez. He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Kathy; his children Stefanie Lattanzio (Doug), Wendy Nevitt (Andrew), Mandy Wojcik (Ron) and Scott Ramirez (Allie); his nine grandchildren Sophia Wojcik, Drew Nevitt, Lila Wojcik, Walter Nevitt, Alexandra Lattanzio, Adair Nevitt, Raleigh Ramirez, Ridge Ramirez, and Rhodes Ramirez; and his siblings: Robert "Bobby" Ramirez (Melodee), Kathy Aaron, Anne Shaw (Bubba), Sue Ramirez, Jenny Nesgood (Bill) and Renee Brashear; and his many nieces and nephews.
The oldest of seven children, Ed was an innate leader his entire life: a dutiful big brother, a doting husband, a tireless father, a principled businessman, and a devout Catholic. Life's countless responsibilities never stifled his charm and humor. He was wonderfully playful, a quick wit and an agile clown, happy to break into a nonsense song or dance to elicit giggles from loved ones.
He was never happier than when he was with his family, who will always remember his love, warmth, and generosity. He could talk to anyone, put them at ease, leave them confident he had their back. He was constant in his Catholic faith, always a servant of God and parish. As an altar boy, eucharistic minister, or member of the St. Rita Parish Advisory Council, his faith and dedication shone brightly.
We are especially thankful to a very special caregiver, Florence, her staff, and C.C. Young Hospice, who showed such warmth and compassion during his battle with Lewy Body Dementia.
