The Night Agent Season 3 Production Begins Amid Character Speculation

Concerns rise as Rose Larkin's return for the new season remains uncertain following key interviews.

After the successful conclusion of its second season, production for Season 3 of The Night Agent is officially underway, though fans are grappling with concerns about the fate of one of its beloved characters.

Luciane Buchanan, who portrays Rose Larkin, revealed her uncertainty about returning for the third season during an interview with Deadline. "I have no idea, and I can’t spoil anything. I wish I could tell you, but Peter does say ‘No, don’t come looking for me,’ and I don’t think Rose takes well to direction; she does whatever she wants. So you never, never know," she expressed, leaving fans on edge.

This worry was echoed by show creator Shawn Ryan, who opted not to confirm Rose's involvement either. "We’re still figuring all of it out," Ryan stated. "What I would say is we don’t want to artificially create a situation where characters have to be part of a specific season on a regular basis." This ambiguity has left Rose’s storyline open to speculation, which is unsettling for many devoted fans.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding Rose, the show's lead, Gabriel Basso, confirmed he would return as Peter Sutherland Jr. The character has grown significantly since Season 1, transitioning from a low-level FBI agent to a full-fledged Night Agent who prevented terrorist threats, including one targeting New York City. Rose, who had been pivotal to Peter's arc, provided not just tech support but emotional grounding as their relationship blossomed amid peril.

Waiting for Season 3 won’t be as torturous as the gap between Seasons 1 and 2, thanks to early writing and production decisions. Netflix aims to expedite the release, with speculation pointing toward a 2026 premiere. Season 2 debuted on January 2025 and was widely successful, dominating rankings across several countries.

The narrative possibilities for Season 3 are compelling. After the events of the Season 2 finale, Peter has inadvertently entangled himself within the political machinations of upcoming presidential candidate Patrick Knox and power broker Jacob Monroe. Shawn Ryan hinted at what audiences might expect saying, "Peter falls in the middle of an awkward and uncomfortable place — he's between two very powerful people. That will be an interesting question in Season 3: Who's really in control of the relationship—President Hagan or Jacob Monroe?" The political intrigue mixed with action will surely grip audiences.

Alongside Basso, several other familiar faces are set to return. Though Buchanan's return remains uncertain, Amanda Warren as Catherine Weaver and Louis Herthum as Jacob Monroe are confirmed to reprise their roles. Fola Evans-Akingbola is expected back as Chelsea Arrington, among other returning cast members, creating anticipatory buzz for the dynamic mix of characters.

New cast members are also joining the fray, hinting at exciting additions to the series. Jennifer Morrison will portray the first lady, and Stephen Moyer is set to play an assassin, roles likely to deepen the storyline and raise stakes considerably. The expansion of the cast alone signals major developments are on the horizon.

Filming for Season 3 is currently underway, with the production recently starting scenes both in Istanbul, Turkey, and New York City. The choice of filming locations suggests ambitious settings could be part of Peter's new mission, potentially involving international espionage themes or more complex narratives than ever before.

Concerning future development, Ryan’s four-year deal with Netflix could pave the way for more seasons and even spin-offs, similar to other successful franchises. For now, fans are left to speculate on the roles they might see, particularly for Rose, whose absence would significantly alter the show's dynamic. Ryan has asked, "Well, we'll see if we even do [include Rose]...there is a challenge with Peter and Rose; their two lifestyles at this point are very different." This adds another layer of complexity to how the story will evolve.

With the future of The Night Agent holding so much promise, viewers will have to remain patient, yet excited, as details about Season 3 emerge. The anticipation of reconnecting with Peter, Rose, and the shadowy world they occupy ensures viewers will be ready for another thrilling ride.
