The New Day and their newfound edge finally pay off in dividends at WWE WrestleMania 41. At the tail-end of 2024, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods were on a collision course that could’ve ultimately led to the duo splitting up. Instead, they chose to blame Big E for their shortcomings as a team. From then on, Woods and Kingston were public enemy number one. But that didn’t matter because they wanted only one thing: to dethrone The War Raiders and become World Tag Team Champions.
At WWE WrestleMania 41, their plans ultimately bore fruit. With a swift Daylight from The New Day, and with Kofi Kingston holding down Ivar’s leg, leaving him unable to kick out while Xavier Woods pinned him, it was lights out for The War Raiders. Before Erik or Ivar ever knew what hit them, The New Day had already become eight-time champions. Whether you agree or disagree with The New Day’s actions over the past half a year, the WWE Universe can’t argue the results. With only one men’s tag team title match taking place at WrestleMania, The New Day and War Raiders got centre stage to battle for gold. WWE is bringing back an iconic match to deal with the WWE Tag Team Championship on SmackDown, meaning that the one man’s tag team title match at WrestleMania was between The New Day and War Raiders as they battled for the World Tag Team Championship. Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston have been loathed by everyone, including their own family, after The New Day turned on Big E during what was supposed to be a ten-year anniversary celebration for the group. Big E has been injured for almost three years, but Kingston and Woods blamed him for that and for abandoning them.
Meanwhile, Erik and Ivar have put their own injury issues in the past and have ruled the tag team division on Raw since winning the World Tag Team Championship in December 2024. The New Day were not shy about targeting Ivar’s surgically repaired neck, and as Kingston held the big man in his arms, Woods dropped a big elbow from the top rope. Xavier Woods pinned his opponent while Kingston held down Ivar’s other leg from the outside as The New Day committed daylight robbery to capture the World Tag Team Championship.
After Jey Uso won the World Heavyweight Championship to kick off WWE WrestleMania 41, there was a title change in the next match as well. The New Day are now 12-time World Tag Team Champions as Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods are titleholders once again. New Day defeated the War Raiders to win the titles, with their victory not coming without some shady tactics. Woods pinned Ivar, but Kofi Kingston – unbeknown to the referee – was holding down Ivar’s legs from the outside to prevent him from kicking out. The War Raiders’ reign had lasted 124 days after they won the championship from Judgment Day’s Finn Balor and JD McDonagh in December.
This was also Woods’ first ever Mania win, taking his record at the event to 1-6. It was Kingston’s third, taking his record to 3-13. Of course six years ago at WrestleMania 35, one of Kingston’s wins saw him become WWE Champion with a win over Daniel Bryan.

Thank God for The New Day. That's what Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods want you to say now that they are the brand new WWE World Tag Team Champions. Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods have picked up their first set of Tag Team Championship belts since dropping Big E from their team by defeating Erik & Ivar, the War Raiders, at WWE WrestleMania 41. The match was presented by the Clash of Clans mobile game, and while Erik and Ivar had gear inspired by the game, Kofi and Xavier combined the gears of Giant Gonzalez and Jushin Thunder Liger to create a unique gear type. Their entrance gear also featured a mythical creature that combined the heads of Cerberus and a unicorn. One of the creature's heads was hanging low, indicating that it had clearly passed away. On commentary, it was said that this was a nod to Big E being booted out of the team by Xavier and Kofi.

Erik made the tag to Ivar who used his size to dominate both Kingston and Woods. In one of the most exciting moments of the match, the over 300-pound Ivar went to the top rope and delivered an awe-inspiring Doom-Sault on Kofi that had the fans on their feet. However, The War Raiders weren't able to get the pinfall when Woods came off the top rope with the Limitbreaker elbow drop. After Kofi cut off the War Machine double team on Xavier, The New Day got rid of Erik and hit Daylight on Ivar with Woods getting the pinfall while Kingston held down his foot to pick up the victory.
