The Last Of Us Part II Remastered Set To Launch On PC With New Updates

Exciting new characters, maps, and a free update for PS5 users scheduled alongside the April release.

The Last of Us Part II Remastered is set to expand its fan base when it launches on PC on April 3, 2025. This highly anticipated release will not only bring the acclaimed game to a new platform but also introduce a wealth of new content for players in its unique No Return mode.

Naughty Dog has made a splash with significant updates aimed at enhancing the overall experience for both PC players and existing PlayStation 5 users. As part of this release, four new maps are being added to the No Return mode: Overlook, School, Streets, and Nest. These locations will allow players to navigate familiar environments that span the game’s compelling storyline, providing new opportunities for strategic gameplay.

The addition of playable characters Bill and Marlene introduces fresh dynamics to the battles players will face in No Return. Bill, a Smuggler, will bring his custom pump shotgun to the fray, which can be accessed through dead drops for double rewards. Despite his increased strength against melee attacks, players should note that he lacks the ability to dodge, offering a unique challenge. Marlene, identified as a Risk-Taker, wields a Custom Assault Rifle and carries ‘All or Nothing’ gambits, along with the intriguing ability to reroute her path once per run. These diverse play styles promise to engage players in fresh strategies as they tackle the new challenges presented in this mode.

The expansion of No Return is not just a polished outing for seasoned players but also an enticing invitation for newcomers as it offers updates that coincide with the PC launch on April 3, 2025. Notably, this date will also see the rollout of a free version 2.0.0 patch for PS5 users, ensuring that they too benefit from the enhancements, new trophies, and bug fixes.

In a shift aimed at optimizing play experiences, players on PC will not be required to link a PlayStation Network (PSN) account to enjoy The Last of Us Part II Remastered. However, Sony is strategically incentivizing connections to PSN, offering those who log in 50 in-game points that can be utilized to activate bonus features. Additionally, linking a PSN account unlocks an exclusive skin for Ellie, featuring the character in Jordan's iconic red jacket inspired by Naughty Dog's upcoming title, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.

Though this optional account linkage echoes recent strategic shifts following backlash from previous requirements imposed on players, particularly following the Helldivers 2 PSN controversy, it illustrates how responsive Sony is to player feedback. “The upcoming title could become the studio’s wildest, most creative story yet,” remarked Neil Druckmann, the president of Naughty Dog, hinting at the studio’s innovative approaches moving forward.

The excitement ramping up around the PC version also aligns with the forthcoming second season of HBO’s adaptation of The Last of Us, set to premiere just ten days later, on April 13, 2025. This new season promises to adapt the storyline from Part II, further broadening the narrative scope of this acclaimed series. The integration of familiar in-game elements such as the Stalkers, as described by co-creators Druckmann and Craig Mazin, adds a thrilling layer to the show, reflecting the game’s tension and depth.

Additionally, HBO Max has announced that the first season of The Last of Us will be available to stream in American Sign Language (ASL) starting March 31, 2025. This inclusion aims to make the series accessible to a broader audience, allowing even more fans to enjoy the heartbreaking and gripping narrative that has captivated viewers since its premiere.

This month of April is poised to be monumental for The Last of Us franchise. Neither newcomers nor veteran players will be left in the cold as both the remastered game launches and the HBO adaptation unfold, creating a multi-platform experience that ties together gaming and storytelling in groundbreaking ways. With the promise of thrilling gameplay updates and a highly anticipated continuation of the poignant story that explores love, loss, and human resilience, 2025 is shaping up to be a year to remember for both The Last of Us fans and newcomers venturing into this chilling narrative.
