Thailand Women's U20 Team Finishes Runner-Up At Four Nations Tournament 2025

The team looks to build on their experience as they prepare for upcoming AFC qualifiers after the tournament

Thailand's U20 women’s football team concluded their participation in the 2025 Four Nations Tournament with a commendable display, finishing as the runners-up after losing to Australia 2-5 during the final match held on February 25, 2025.

Facing off at Dakin Park, the young Thai athletes showed resilience against their Australian counterparts. Both teams had previously secured victories against the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu, setting the stage for this highly anticipated match.

The game kicked off with Australia quickly taking the lead, as Sienna Saviska scored the opening goal just ten minutes in. The momentum shifted, though, when Thailand’s Madison Jett-Castine leveled the score at 1-1 after 18 minutes with a well-placed shot. This goal provided hope for the Thai team and their supporters.

Just nine minutes later, Australia found the net again via a penalty, which came after Thai defender Napasawan Seupsuan was called for handball. Saviska seized the opportunity, converting the penalty to make it 2-1.

Tension filled the air as Thailand retaliated once more; another equalizer came from Jett-Castine, who, assisted by goalkeeper blunder, struck to bring the score to 2-2 just before halftime.

After the break, the Australians displayed their strength. Peta Trimis put them back in front with her goal at the 70-minute mark. Once again, Thailand pressed hard for another goal but found themselves down 4-2 when Saviska scored from outside the box just seven minutes later.

By the time the match was approaching its end, Australia sealed their victory with Kaylee Henninger’s goal, resulting in the final score of 5-2. Despite the loss, Thailand’s U20 team exited the tournament with heads held high, having showcased their potential on the international stage.

The Thai team is now set to return home with their flight expected to land at Suvarnabhumi Airport on February 27 at 16:10 local time. Plans are already underway for continuous training as they gear up for the upcoming AFC U20 Women’s Championship qualifiers set for 2026.

The squad's head coach and the country's football authorities are optimistic about the team's future, recognizing the importance of nurturing young talent. With experiences like the Four Nations Tournament, the players will be well-prepared for higher levels of competition.

The final roster featured key players such as goalkeeper Atima Boonprakai, along with mainstays Napasawan Seupsuan and Madison Jett-Castine, all of whom played pivotal roles throughout the tournament.

While the result wasn’t the desired championship win, the Thai U20 women’s team’s determination and effort resonate deeply within the football community. Fans and critics alike expect greater achievements from these athletes as they stride forward and develop their skills for future international challenges.
