Thai Automotive Market Thrives With New Launches

Leapmotor, Chery, and Maserati reveal new models, showcasing innovation and luxury.

Thailand’s automotive market is witnessing significant developments with several exciting new car launches igniting interest among consumers and industry players alike.

First up, the Leapmotor T03 officially launched on February 21, 2024, introducing two new models: the 310 Comfort Edition and the 403 Comfort Edition, priced between 59,900 and 69,900 yuan. This launch marks Leapmotor's commitment to upgrading its specifications; the newest model showcases a fresh exterior color called "Sunny Sea Blue" and interior features presented in an elegant "Starry Night" black. The exterior design of the T03 adheres to classic aesthetics, combining modern technology with traditional elements to create a friendly and beautiful vehicle.

Inside the T03, upgraded materials provide comfort throughout, with notable enhancements including soft materials used for door panels, armrests, and areas frequently touched by passengers. Tech-savvy consumers will appreciate the addition of an 8-inch floating instrument cluster and a central control screen measuring 10.1 inches. The T03 is powered by Leapmotor's newly developed electrical system featuring maximum power output of 80kW, along with energy-efficient power units capable of up to 93% efficiency. The vehicle supports three driving modes: economy, standard, and sport, allowing users to tailor their driving experience based on road conditions.

Next, the spotlight shifts to Chery, which has announced plans to establish the Chery Smart Auto Industrial Park at the Beringin High-Tech Auto Valley located in Hulu Selangor, Malaysia. The launch ceremony for the park was graced by the presence of the Crown Prince of Selangor, highlighting the importance of this industrial venture. The park, covering 200 acres, aims for completion by 2026, with initial production capacity projected at 100,000 vehicles per year, potentially expandable to 300,000 vehicles as demand grows. This strategic development is expected to bolster Chery’s presence and manufacturing capabilities within the Southeast Asian market.

Chery is currently operating its assembly facility located at Shah Alam, which produces local models including the Jaecoo J7 and Omoda C9. Notably, the assembly plant commenced operations last April, reflecting Chery's commitment to localization and market adaptation. The company also collaborates with local partners to produce additional models, demonstrating its proactive approach to engage with regional manufacturing ecosystems.

Adding to the excitement, Maserati has recently launched the 2025 Maserati GranCabrio, available with two models: Trofeo and Folgore. The Trofeo features the powerful Nettuno petrol engine, boasting 550 horsepower, with prices starting at 18,900,000 baht. The fully electric Folgore model is available from 14,900,000 baht and integrates advanced Formula E racing technology, including three electric motors delivering up to 761 horsepower and 1,350 Nm of torque. This innovative engineering positions the GranCabrio as not only stylish but also as one of the most powerful offerings ever produced by Maserati.

The Maserati GranCabrio’s soft-top roof, made from high-quality fabric, is operable via electric controls within 14 seconds at speeds not exceeding 50 km/h. The vehicle comfortably seats four occupants and includes features aimed at enhancing the Italian driving experience, such as improving aerodynamics when the car is occupied by fewer passengers. Maserati Thailand emphasizes luxurious experiences with this new model, which is produced entirely in Italy, showcasing the brand’s upscale market targeting.

These recent launches exemplify the vibrant growth within Thailand’s automotive sector, reflecting shifts toward electrification and smart automotive solutions. With the industry's focus on technological advancement, stylish designs, and sustainable practices, consumers can expect numerous options catering to diverse preferences. The competitive nature between domestic and international brands within this market is expected to shape future offerings, driving innovation and quality improvements throughout the automotive industry.
