Thai AirAsia Expands With New Route To Hai Phong

Travel options grow as Thai AirAsia launches direct flights promoting tourism to Vietnam's third-largest city.

On March 25, 2025, Thai AirAsia announced the launch of a new direct flight route from Bangkok (Don Mueang) to Hai Phong, Vietnam, marking a significant expansion in its operations. This new service invites travelers to explore the camera-ready views of Ha Long Bay, a stunning destination with remarkable landscapes.

The inaugural flight is set to take off on July 16, 2025, with promotional fares starting at just 1,790 baht per flight. Booking for these flights began on March 24 and will continue until April 6, 2025, with travel available between July 16 and October 24, 2025. Passengers can book their tickets via AirAsia MOVE or the official website, www.airasia.com.

Santi Suksaisai, the CEO of Thai AirAsia, shared insights on the airline's new venture, stating, "The Vietnam market continues to grow, and the demand for travel is increasing from both Thai and foreign travelers." He emphasized the strategic importance of Hai Phong, noting it as Vietnam's third-largest city and a vital northern port, endowed with both economic and tourism potential.

"Thai AirAsia will be the only airline offering direct flights from Bangkok to Hai Phong, making us the carrier serving the most direct routes to Vietnam, with a total of six cities currently connected," Suksaisai continued. The airline currently offers flights from Bangkok to Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Nha Trang, Phu Quoc, and now Hai Phong.

The decision to open this new route comes as demand for travel to Vietnam continues to surge. Hai Phong boasts not only economic significance but also a vibrant cultural experience. Its lively atmosphere and unique culinary landscape make it an attractive destination for tourists from various backgrounds.

Located in northern Vietnam, Hai Phong offers pleasant weather and has become increasingly popular among Vietnamese travelers. The city is particularly noted for its rich food culture, characterized by distinctive local dishes. Tourists will find that reaching Ha Long Bay, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is conveniently close, taking about 50 minutes by road, providing access to one of Vietnam's most famous attractions.

In Suksaisai's view, the launch of this route represents a commitment to fostering new travel opportunities for tourists and enhancing connectivity within the region. He mentioned that flights to destinations in Vietnam have consistently maintained an impressive load factor, with an average occupancy rate of 90% for flights operated from January to February.

As travelers increasingly seek diverse experiences, Hai Phong is positioned as an alternative destination that differs from other Vietnamese cities, contributing positively to the expanding tourism landscape. Destined to captivate all types of travelers, Hai Phong caters to adventurers visiting amusement parks, relaxation seekers sipping on coffee, and food lovers eager to indulge in phenomenal cuisine.

Thai AirAsia’s new service to Hai Phong is set to operate four flights per week—Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays—providing a boost to the city’s tourism and enhancing the links between Thailand and Vietnam.

This strategic expansion reflects Thai AirAsia's ongoing commitment to growing its international footprint amid an expanding global travel market, ensuring that the airline remains competitive and responsive to the evolving travel preferences of consumers venturing into the vibrant culture and scenic beauty of Vietnam.

With this latest addition, Thai AirAsia not only reinforces its standing as a key player in the Southeast Asian aviation sector but also plays a vital role in promoting travel experiences in one of the region's emerging hotspots. The future of travel between Thailand and Vietnam looks bright, with ample opportunities for exploration and cultural exchange awaiting adventurous travelers on this new route to Hai Phong.
