Terence Hill To Return For Sequel To My Name Is Nobody

The legendary spaghetti western will continue its story with beloved characters and new faces.

Western movie fans rejoice! The iconic spaghetti western, My Name is Nobody, is set to return with its long-awaited sequel, bringing back star Terence Hill. Originally released back in 1973, this new installment is planned to go before cameras in the autumn of 2025, igniting excitement and nostalgia for those who grew up watching the classic.

This announcement has been sourced from various reports, including insights from Alexandre Alfonsi, the author of On l'appelle Terence Hill, who spoke to Le Figaro about the production. The producers initially sought to create another cinematic adventure revolving around Hill's character Trinita. (Initially, producers approached Terence to tell the sequel of Trinita’s adventures. Then they thought, a new episode of My Name is Nobody would make more sense.)

Returning to his roots, Hill will revive his legendary role of Personne, now seasoned with more years of experience. Fans can expect him to cross paths with Sister Blandina, a courageous nun of the Wild West, who has her own stories to tell, having encountered the notorious Billy the Kid. Alfonsi tantalizingly noted, "C'est encore un secret mais je crois qu'il est bon désormais d'en révéler quelques bribes." (It's still a secret, but I believe it's good to reveal some bits of information now.)

The original My Name is Nobody, directed by Tonino Valerii, garnered much acclaim upon its release, raking in roughly 4.7 million ticket sales just within France. The film is not only known for its engaging narrative but also for the humor and wit embodied by Hill's character, who was pitted against the gripping terror of the Republican forces styled as La Horde sauvage—a band of inept killers wreaking havoc across several states.

The groundwork for the sequel is being laid with Warner Bros. stepping up, having seen the potential the project holds. According to Alfonsi, "La Warner Bros. a eu les yeux qui brillaient et c'est elle qui a fini par rafler la mise en persuadant Terence de revenir aux affaires." (Warner Bros. had glimmering eyes and ended up winning the deal, persuading Terence to come back to the business.) Their investment reflects not only the continued interest in Hill's work but also the spaghetti western genre itself, which has recently regained popularity among both older and younger audiences alike.

The discussions of adding Sister Blandina reflects a departure from Hill's earlier storyline, which revolved around the character’s quest to revive the legend of Jack Beauregard, played by the legendary Henry Fonda. This time, the stakes and narrative complexity appear to be markedly higher. Hill’s Personne will be entwined with newer characters who traverse the same rough and rugged terrain of old western tales.

A captivating facet of the new storyline is its connection to historical icon Billy the Kid, bringing depth and vibrancy to the character arcs. The blend of fiction and historic personalities promises to engage audiences beyond what the original film captured. With reports pending on the exact narrative details, anticipation for the film continues to grow.

Reflecting on the legacy of My Name is Nobody, Alfonsi pointed out how monumental the original was for the genre, stating, "Il ne te manque qu'un grand final pour entrer dans la légende." (You only need one grand finale to enter the legend.) Now, as Hill prepares to reprise his role, it seems the filmmakers aim to deliver just such a finale, albeit with the added challenge of living up to Ennio Morricone's unforgettable score, which has been one of the cornerstones of the original's appeal.

Despite mixed feelings among die-hard spaghetti western fans about revisiting classic films, the excitement for this new chapter is palpable. Hill's charm and charisma have largely defined the persona of western heroes, and his directorial vision now faces the monumental task of capturing new audiences and rekindling the nostalgia of long-time fans.

Overall, this sequel at its heart isn’t solely about nostalgia; it’s about chronicling the evolution of westerns and the intense urge to explore tales woven with humor, grit, and deep historical ties. The film promises to be more than just another entry; it potentially stands as both homage and extension of the extremely impactful legacy left by its predecessors.

Fans await news about the filming locations and other character details, but for now, the return of Hill as Personne keeps the spirit of the spaghetti western alive, ensuring audiences are excited for what the future holds.
