The most notable effort from Colorado came from the team of Kala Komanduri and Amelia Karr, who narrowly fell to Hannah Ramsperger and Payal Patel with a score of 7-5.

Meanwhile, on the same day, the Columbia women’s tennis team, ranked No. 69, fought hard but fell 5-2 to No. 43 Rice at the Philip and Cheryl Milstein Family Tennis Center in New York. The Lions started strong, clinching the doubles point with victories from Sophia Wang and Emily Baek, who defeated Divna Ratkovic and Valentina Ponce 6-1, and the duo of Gayathri Krishnan and Sophia Strugnell, who overcame 80th-ranked Saara Orav and Francesca Maguina 6-3.
Rice bounced back during singles play, taking the lead with two consecutive wins. Dara Schwartzman made quick work of Malak El Allami, winning her match 6-3, 6-2, followed by Francesca Maguina, who downed Fatima Keita 7-5, 6-2. Columbia did manage to level the match briefly at 2-2 when Winta Tewolde triumphed over Allison Zipoli, earning victory with scores of 6-2, 6-4. But after this hopeful moment, Rice regained control by winning the remaining matches, including Divna Ratkovic’s 6-4, 6-3 win over Krishnan, and clinching the overall victory with Nithesa Selvaraj’s 6-2, 6-4 victory against Wang.
Columbia is set to regroup as they look forward to their next match on March 21, 2025, at Cal Poly. The Lions are hopeful to bounce back after their tough match against Rice.
Meanwhile, the Penn State women’s tennis team faced off against Michigan State on March 15, 2025, suffering a close loss of 4-2. Playing on Michigan's home turf, the Nittany Lions claimed the doubles point with Olivia Dorner and Maiko Uchijima dominating with a 6-0 victory over Ellie Blackford and Liisa Vehvilainen, and Jordina Cegarra and Patricia Grigoras edging out Issey Purser and Oriana Parkins-Godwin with a 7-6 match win.
Despite their strong start, Penn State faced challenges during singles as the Spartans quickly took control, with Grigoras managing the team’s only singles victory against Matilde Morais with scores of 6-3, 6-4. Uchijima lost to Brahmbhatt, and Dorner fell to Vehvilainen as the team struggled to maintain their momentum. To add to the tough contest, Hanna Tsitavets secured the win for Michigan State by defeating Yvonne Zuffova. Vico had led her match against Purser before it went unfinished.

Lastly, the Eastern Michigan women’s tennis team achieved a remarkable 7-0 victory over Saginaw Valley State on March 15, 2025, marking their second consecutive clean sweep. The Eagles started strong, dominating the doubles matches with convincing wins from Viki Hazmukova and Marta Konar (6-1), and Sabrina Brichackova and Prerna Vichare, who defeated their opponents 6-2. Lara Diaz Zayas and Daniella Shved also secured their doubles match with a score of 6-3.
During singles play, Diaz Zayas continued the momentum with two 6-0 sets, leading the Eagles to 2-0. Hazmukova, Shved, and Kseniia Saenko all contributed wins during their matches, completing the clean sweep. The victory not only boosts their team record to 7-6 but also signifies the first time Eastern Michigan has managed back-to-back sweeps since the 2013 season. Saginaw Valley State fell to 1-7 following this defeat.
