The Telegram Chat of Gennady Korban (TCK) has been serving as a lifeline for residents of Dnipro since its inception two years ago, tackling urgent communal and civic challenges. Over this period, more than 50,000 requests have been logged through this innovative communication platform, which has played a fundamental role during troubling times for the city.
According to reports from "Dnipro Oперативний" and "Наше Місто", almost 23,000 requests were registered just during the challenging year of 2024. The highlights of the program's success reflect its commitment to addressing significant issues, particularly the lack of basic amenities such as electricity, heating, and water.
Gennady Korban, the head of the Public Council of Dnipro, emphasizes the platform's priority now shifts toward aiding civilians. "Today we need to help our compatriots, our city residents. I can relate to the helplessness of living on the 16th floor with just electric stoves, without light or heat. What does someone do when they can’t leave their apartment, perhaps due to age or health issues? Bringing water or bread to someone who is struggling is what we aim to achieve," Korban noted.
Every day, the TCK receives numerous requests which are managed by Korban and his assistants. He stated, "I used to respond to requests personally; now I have helpers, but I read all messages. Especially urgent matters receive my personal attention as we coordinate with various communal services for timely solutions." His hands-on approach reflects the program's effectiveness and his commitment to community support.
Outcomes from the TCK's initiatives since its inception are impressive. Among the thousands of issues resolved last year were the restoration of water supply systems in Igren and Dievke-1, installation of modern street lighting on NovoOrlovskaya, and extensive repair of tramway crossings. Community cleanup efforts, including areas like Klochko-6 cemetery, also highlight the breadth of the TCK’s operations.
Notably, Dnipro residents have voiced their appreciation for the efforts made through the TCK. One resident named Victoria expressed, "You are the most efficient and kind resource,” illustrating the heartfelt gratitude Dnipro citizens feel toward this channel of communication.
Another local, Natalia, remarked, "The person who created this chat is just brilliant! You can report any problems, and they are addressed rapidly." Svetlana added, "We are grateful for everyone who cares for Dnipro and its people, ensuring we stay warm, comfortable, and illuminated no matter the situation."
Elenas praise reiterated the efficiency of the service, stating, "I frequently sought your help, and there have never been refusals! Right now, I request the replacement of the light on the pole at Slava Boulevard 2A. Thank you for all your hard work!"
According to the data compiled, Dnipro's residents most often reportedwater and electricity supply issues, heating concerns, garbage collection complaints, problems with emergency trees, and road repairs throughout 2024. Notably, the requests escalated during the summer, particularly when frequent power outages disrupted water supply systems.
The breakdown of top issues indicates 5,106 requests related to water, evidencing heightened concern during July and August when supply was particularly compromised. Similarly, the electricity segment saw 3,071 requests during times of outages. According to Korban, the community's engagement has risen significantly, with people turning to the platform for resolutions from 1,441 requests logged each month to as many as 2,993 requests.
Urgent circumstances prompted added efforts, such as the installation of new garbage bins on Morskoy Pekhoty Street, as well as improvements to street lighting on Kanadskaya Street (formerly Dobrolyubova). The TCK has not only aided human welfare but also worked to improve animal welfare, exemplified by the successful rescue of a cat by Dnipro Elektrotransport on Kalnyshevsky Avenue.
Gennady Korban has brought attention to the significance of teamwork among city services and residents. Multiple municipal enterprises, including KP “Dneprovodokanal,” KP “Teploenergo,” and KP “Gorsvet,” contributed significantly to addressing these numerous requests, earning shared praise within the community.
On the day of the municipal worker's celebration, Korban posted heartfelt gratitude toward all city service employees for their tireless efforts to improve Dnipro. “We honor the late Deputy Mayor of Dnipro, Mykhailo Lysenko, who made significant contributions to our city. Special thanks to all communal service workers for making Dnipro comfortable and livable,” Korban emphasized.
For communal issues requiring support, residents can reach out to the Mutual Assistance Headquarters on weekdays from 9 AM to 5 PM at several contact numbers: (095) 816-39-11, (093) 261-32-25, and (063) 402-79-56. The Telegram Chat remains open 24/7 for urgent submissions.
The results of the TCK clearly demonstrate how proactive community engagement can lead to significant improvements, illustrating the power of cooperation and support within Dnipro. From resolving basic needs to larger city-wide projects, the narrative of progress continues to evolve, poised for even greater achievements moving forward.
