Hyderabad, May 8 (PTI) – Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy made a bold statement on Thursday, asserting that Indian soldiers possess the capability to erase Pakistan from the world map if necessary. Speaking at a rally in support of the armed forces, Reddy emphasized that while India is rooted in the principles of peace and non-violence, it will not tolerate any threats to its sovereignty.
The rally, dubbed a national solidarity event against terrorism, was held against the backdrop of 'Operation Sindoor', an initiative launched by the Indian military aimed at combating terrorism. Reddy’s remarks came as a clarion call to the nation, rallying support for the military amidst escalating tensions with Pakistan.
"If our brave soldiers want, they can erase Pakistan from the world map overnight... We are peace lovers. We are heirs of Mahatma Gandhi. We defeated the British through peaceful means. Our country, we got freedom for your country (Pakistan) also," Reddy declared, invoking the legacy of India's independence struggle.
He continued, "Don’t forget that we can erase you from the world map." This statement underscores the dual nature of India’s stance—while advocating for peace, it also conveys a strong message of deterrence against any aggression.
Reddy highlighted the unity of the Indian populace, stating that 140 crore Indians stand firmly with their jawans. This sentiment of solidarity transcends political affiliations, as he noted that leaders from the Congress party, including Rahul Gandhi and AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge, have expressed their support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi in taking decisive action against terrorism.
During the rally, which stretched from the Secretariat to the Indira Gandhi statue on Necklace Road, participants held national flags and chanted slogans in support of the Indian Army. Reddy remarked, "India is one in this war against Pakistan-sponsored terrorism. All 140 crore people of India are united and together in backing their armed forces. Those who challenge our nation’s integrity will pay a heavy price."
Reddy’s statements reflect a broader sentiment within Indian politics, especially as elections approach. The rhetoric surrounding national security often intensifies, with various political leaders rallying their bases around the theme of patriotism and defense.
He also reiterated that any attempt to harm India’s sovereignty by supporting terrorism will not be tolerated. "We are peace-loving people. We are successors of Mahatma Gandhi, but if our peaceful nature is mistaken for weakness and our daughters’ sindoor is threatened, our response will be Operation Sindoor," he asserted, linking the mission to the broader context of national pride and security.
The Chief Minister's remarks come as India continues to grapple with the challenges posed by terrorism, particularly from groups operating in Pakistan. The launch of 'Operation Sindoor' has been portrayed as a necessary measure to safeguard the nation and respond to threats effectively.
As Reddy concluded his address, he emphasized the importance of unity in the face of adversity. "On matters of national security, we rise above politics and stand as one," he stated, reinforcing the idea that the defense of the nation is a collective responsibility that transcends party lines.
The rally not only served as a platform for Reddy to express his views but also as a significant moment for many participants who were eager to show their support for the armed forces. The display of patriotism was palpable, with many attendees feeling a deep sense of pride in their country and its military capabilities.
In a time when geopolitical tensions are high, Reddy’s comments resonate with many who believe in a strong defense posture. His remarks serve as a reminder of the delicate balance between advocating for peace and preparing for potential conflict.
As the situation evolves, the Indian government faces the challenge of maintaining its commitment to peace while ensuring the security of its citizens. The rhetoric surrounding military capabilities and national unity will likely continue to play a central role in political discourse as the nation navigates its path forward.
With the backing of the populace and the support of political leaders across the spectrum, the Indian government appears poised to take a firm stance against any threats to its sovereignty, reinforcing the notion that while peace is the preferred path, the nation is ready to defend itself if necessary.
