A tragic shooting on the morning of Saturday, December 21, 2024, claimed the life of 17-year-old Johnny Lairscy, a student at Southeast Bulloch High School, and left his father, Jarrell (Jay) Lairscy Sr., injured. The Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office has charged Johnny’s younger brother, 15-year-old Jarrell Lairscy Jr., with multiple crimes, including murder, in connection with the incident according to Bulloch County Sheriff's Captain Todd Hutchens, CID Commander.
Bulloch County Deputies responded to a property on Highway 46 near Waters Cemetery Road at 10:50 a.m. after receiving reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, officers found Johnny and his father suffering from gunshot wounds outside their residence. Emergency responders provided care at the scene before transporting Johnny to East Georgia Regional Medical Center in Statesboro. Despite efforts to save him, Johnny was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. His untimely death has left the community in shock and mourning the loss of a young life full of potential.
Meanwhile, authorities confirmed Jarrell (Jay) Lairscy Sr. was injured in the shooting and after receiving initial care on the scene, he was transported to Memorial Medical Center in Savannah for additional treatment. Reports indicate he will be discharged from the hospital on Monday. The suspect, 15-year-old Jarrell Lairscy Jr., was arrested at the scene and faces charges including one count of felony murder and one count of malice murder, as well as multiple counts pertaining to aggravated assault and possession of firearms during the commission of felonies.
Lairscy Jr. is charged as an adult under Georgia’s “Seven Deadly Sins” law, which permits the prosecution of juveniles as adults for serious violent crimes. Despite these grave charges, he is currently being held in juvenile detention due to his age. Investigators are still working to determine the motive for the shooting, but report Lairscy Jr. has declined to provide any explanation for his actions.
Authorities emphasized the incident occurred outside the family home and clarified it was unrelated to any hunting activities, countering initial speculation circulating on social media. The investigative team is led by Investigator Jonathan Fadden, who has urged anyone with additional information to assist with the case. Friends of the Lairscy family have initiated a GoFundMe to help them cope with the financial burdens following this tragedy.

After returning to the car, Davis’ husband was confronted by one of the suspects, who opened fire at the vehicle as it attempted to leave the parking lot. The vehicle rolled for some distance before stopping, allowing the husband to escape. Meanwhile, the shooters fled on foot after the incident, leaving two additional family members unharmed in the back seat.
