Teen Arrested After Allegedly Biting Off Man's Ear

A violent spring break altercation on Fort Myers Beach raises safety concerns for visitors.

In a shocking incident on March 17, 2025, an 18-year-old man from Florida, Jack Turner, was arrested after allegedly biting off a portion of another man's ear during a violent confrontation on Fort Myers Beach. The altercation, which has drawn widespread attention, reportedly took place amidst the hustle and bustle of Spring Break.

The confrontation happened in the late afternoon when Turner was seen verbally assaulting the victim with racial slurs. Witnesses described how Turner approached the victim, who was enjoying time on the beach with friends. Shortly thereafter, a physical fight broke out between the two men, leading to Turner allegedly jumping the victim from behind.

A witness recounted the events, stating she asked the victim if he was going to allow the attack, prompting him to take a fighting stance. The ensuing brawl was captured on video, showing an alarming series of events. According to the Lee County Sheriff's Office, the footage depicted the victim face down in the sand, with Turner on top of him. Turner can be seen striking the victim in the back of the head with his fist and forcing his face into the sand

This horrifying attack escalated when Turner yanked the victim’s head up and apparently bit his left ear, resulting in a “traumatic auricular amputation”. The violence of the incident left bystanders in shock, prompting them to intervene and break up the fight.

Following the incident, the injured victim was rushed to Gulf Coast Hospital, where he was treated for his traumatic injury. While his identity has not been disclosed, it is known that he is described as a Black homosexual man. Reports indicate that he is currently receiving specialized medical attention for his injuries.

Turner, who was arrested shortly after the altercation, now faces felony battery charges. According to the police report, officials confirmed that the victim and Turner were known to each other, adding a layer of complexity to this brutal incident.

Statements from the Lee County Sheriff's Office reflect a strong stance against violence. Sheriff Carmine Marceno declared, “Sheriff Carmine Marceno has ZERO tolerance for violence of any kind!” stressing that Fort Myers Beach will remain a safe environment for both locals and visitors. In response to this incident, additional deputies will be patrolling the beach to ensure the ongoing security of all beachgoers.

The incident's timing, occurring during the busy spring break period, raises concerns about safety on Florida's beaches, known for their festive atmosphere. It is worth noting that the area has seen numerous disturbances and safety issues in previous spring breaks, prompting authorities to enhance their presence and readiness.

This altercation, particularly alarming due to the violent nature of the attack involving a severe injury, serves as a reminder of the pressing issues of violence and discrimination in public spaces. As the investigation continues, the Lee County Sheriff's Office is expected to release further updates regarding Turner’s legal proceedings and the ongoing health status of the victim.

As it stands, the community is left to grapple with the aftermath of this shocking event, highlighting the need for increased awareness and action against hate-fueled violence. The dedication of law enforcement to curb such incidents will be crucial in restoring confidence among beachgoers and residents alike.
