Ted Lasso Returns For Exciting Fourth Season

Jason Sudeikis' beloved character will now coach women's soccer team

The beloved comedy series Ted Lasso, which has captured the hearts of millions since its debut on Apple TV+ in August 2020, is now confirmed to return for its fourth season. Jason Sudeikis, who plays the optimistic American football coach leading the A.F.C. Richmond soccer team, dropped the exciting news during the New Heights podcast co-hosted by NFL stars Travis and Jason Kelce on March 14, 2025. "That's the official word!" he said, hinting at new adventures for Coach Lasso as he will be taking on the challenge of coaching a women's soccer team this time around.

Fans of the series were left yearning for more after the emotional season three finale aired on May 2023, which saw Lasso return to the U.S. to reconnect with his son, Henry, leaving the prowess of A.F.C. Richmond in the hands of the new manager, Roy Kent, portrayed by Brett Goldstein. Kent’s evolution from the disgruntled player to the respected leader has been one of the show's many highlights, alongside the complicated relationships and personal growth experienced by the cast.

The anticipation for season four has been palpable, especially after Bill Lawrence, co-creator and executive producer of Ted Lasso, voiced the creative team’s excitement to continue telling stories if the opportunity arose. "We’re writing season 4 now," Sudeikis confirmed, adding, "The folks at A.F.C. Richmond learn to leap before they look, discovering where they land is precisely where they’re meant to be." This hints at the show's continued theme of hope amid uncertainty.

Returning cast members include Hannah Waddingham as Rebecca Welton, the owner of A.F.C. Richmond, Brett Goldstein as Roy Kent, and Jeremy Swift as Leslie. Although there were initial concerns whether Phil Dunster, who plays Jamie Tartt, would return due to his commitments to another series, reports suggest he may still be part of the ensemble.

Throughout its prior seasons, Ted Lasso has proven to be more than just another sports show. It won numerous accolades, including 13 Emmys and two Golden Globes, celebrated for its mix of humor and heartfelt storytelling. Sudeikis's portrayal has garnered praise, earning him two Emmys for Best Lead Actor. The show's narrative, focusing on themes such as kindness, optimism, and the struggles of personal growth, has struck chords far beyond the bounds of its original premise.

The shift to coaching women’s soccer offers not only fresh prospects for storytelling but also aligns with the increasing visibility of women’s sports. Speculation suggests Ted Lasso might take on the Kansas City Current, aligning with his character's roots as he's originally from Kansas. Sudeikis himself has been noted for his affection for women's basketball and soccer, making this transition feel organic.

Apple TV+ head of programming, Matt Cherniss, expressed enthusiasm over the series’ return with, “Ted Lasso has been nothing short of a juggernaut, inspiring passionate fans all over the world, delivering joy and kindness.” Shows of such caliber resonate deeply with audiences, combining laughter with valuable life lessons.

While production is set to resume around July 2025, it is important to note there has been no official release date announced. The writing team, featuring talent from previous seasons such as Joe Kelly and Jane Becker, is already hard at work crafting new scripts. Alongside them is Jack Burditt, known for his work on Modern Family, now contributing to the show as co-executive producer.

Despite the gloomy forecasts about 2025 highlighted by certain events worldwide, the announcement of Ted Lasso's return arrives as refreshing news for many. Sudeikis’s embodiment of
