TBS Announcer Risako Unai Graduates From Show

Celebrated announcer bids farewell to ‘Akko ni Omakase!’ as she plans future endeavors

TBS announcer Risako Unai officially graduated from the long-running program ‘Akko ni Omakase!’ on December 22, 2024, marking the end of her tenure with the show. The event was filled with heartfelt moments, as Unai received flowers from the show’s host, Akiko Wada, who expressed her appreciation for Unai's contributions to the program.

During the program's closing moments, Wada stated, “皆さんにとって心地の良い進行になっていたら、こんなに嬉しいことはないと思います,” which translates to, "It would make me so happy if my hosting has been comfortable for everyone." This sentiment reflects the deep connection Unai built with her audience over the years.

Unai, who plans to leave TBS entirely by March 2025, shared her decision on her Instagram account earlier, stating, “I will continue to watch as a viewer.” Unai's departure also correlates with the show approaching its 40th anniversary, having first aired back in October 1985. Interestingly, the host had previously addressed potential rumors surrounding the end of the program, which were reportedly brought to light by sources earlier this year.

Despite speculation about the series concluding by 2025, the final episode aired without any formal announcement of its cancellation. With 39 years under its belt, the show continues strong, adapting to changes over the decades, yet challenges have begun to surface.

Industry insiders hinted at underlying issues with the program. For example, repeated errors during live broadcasts have raised eyebrows. The discussions surrounding the show's viability have intensified, particularly concerning host Wada's advancing age and her controversial remarks earlier this year.

Reflecting on her experience on ‘Akko ni Omakase!’, Unai expressed gratitude during her final appearance. “本日の放送でアッコにおまかせの出演は最後でした,” she mentioned, confirming her farewell from the show. This translates to, “Today’s broadcast was my last appearance on ‘Akko ni Omakase!’” Unai acknowledged the many lessons and moments shared with her co-hosts and the production team.

Adding to her heartfelt message, Unai stated, “昨年末に結婚したこともあって、この1年だけでも家族の在り方について考えることが非常に多くなった,” which translates to, “Considering I got married last year, I’ve thought about family dynamics increasingly this past year.” This suggests her personal life has significantly influenced her decision to depart TBS, emphasizing her desire to prioritize family moving forward.

It seems Unai is eager to pursue opportunities outside of conventional broadcasting roles. Known for her passion for gaming, she hinted at possibly engaging with the gaming community and exploring talent opportunities. Supporters await her next steps, believing she can carve out this path successfully.

Unai’s departure raises questions about the future of ‘Akko ni Omakase!’ without her presence. The show has witnessed fluctuations and necessary adjustments to maintain audience engagement amid shifting viewer preferences. Unai leaves behind not only fond memories and heartfelt connections with fans but also hopes for the show to continue thriving as it enters its fifth decade.

With risks and opportunities honing the future narrative, Risako Unai's departure could signify both personal and professional transitions ripe with potential. Viewers are likely to follow Unai's career closely, staying tuned for what this beloved announcer will achieve next as she embraces new endeavors outside the TBS framework.
