Tax Discounts Available In Mexico City And Edomex

Residents urged to take advantage of tax benefits before March 31 deadline

As the deadline approaches for tax benefits in Mexico City and the State of Mexico, authorities are urging residents to take advantage of significant discounts available for various taxes. The campaign for tax benefits, which includes reductions on property taxes, vehicle taxes, and water bills, is set to conclude on March 31, 2025. This initiative aims to encourage timely payments and alleviate financial burdens for taxpayers.

In Mexico City (CDMX), a notable incentive is the 100% discount on vehicle tax, or tenencia, for those who pay the vehicle registration fee of 731 pesos before the deadline. This discount applies to vehicles valued at no more than 250,000 pesos. Additionally, property taxes and water bills also come with discounts and the option for interest-free monthly payments, making it easier for residents to meet their obligations.

Special provisions are in place for vulnerable groups, including retirees, pensioners, seniors without fixed incomes, orphans, widows, single mothers, and individuals with disabilities. These groups may qualify for extra discounts, ensuring that those who need it most can benefit from the program.

In the neighboring municipalities of the State of Mexico, similar programs are being implemented to encourage prompt payments. For instance, Ecatepec has launched the "Borrón y cuenta nueva" initiative, which offers discounts on property taxes of up to 34% for vulnerable residents, as well as debt forgiveness for water bills. In Toluca, early payments can result in a 4% reduction in both water and property taxes, with an additional 38% discount for vulnerable sectors.

Naucalpan is also participating in the initiative, providing a 4% discount on property taxes and water bills for the month of March, along with further benefits for vulnerable groups. Meanwhile, Nezahualcóyotl is offering a 6% discount on property taxes for those who pay annually in advance and a 38% discount on water for vulnerable populations. Cuautitlán Izcalli is similarly reducing property and water taxes by 4% for early payments, with an additional 34% for vulnerable individuals.

The deadline for these tax benefits is set for March 31, 2025, at 11:59 PM. After this date, all payments will be processed without discounts. To qualify for the 100% discount on vehicle tax, vehicle owners must be up to date with previous years' payments and possess a valid circulation permit.

Payments can be made at over 8,800 collection points, including kiosks operated by the Treasury, banks, convenience stores, and department stores. Additionally, residents can use the Treasury CDMX app for convenient payment options.

As the clock ticks down, taxpayers are encouraged not to miss this opportunity to fulfill their tax obligations while taking advantage of available discounts. With the deadline fast approaching, many residents are likely feeling the urgency to act.

In related news, the "Hoy No Circula" program, which restricts vehicle circulation based on environmental concerns, is also in effect. On March 31, vehicles with hologram 1 and 2, pink stickers, and license plates ending in the digits 7 and 8 are prohibited from circulating. This program runs daily from 5:00 AM to 10:00 PM across all 16 alcaldías of Mexico City and 18 adjacent municipalities in the State of Mexico.

Exemptions from the "Hoy No Circula" restrictions include vehicles with zero or double zero holograms, tractors, construction machinery, motorcycles, electric cars, hybrid vehicles, classic cars, emergency vehicles, and those with tourist passes. However, failure to comply with the program can result in hefty fines, ranging from 20 to 30 times the current Unit of Measurement and Update (UMA), along with vehicle immobilization.

The program aims to reduce traffic congestion and improve air quality in the region. When air quality deteriorates, the Commission for Environmental Protection may implement stricter measures, such as a "Doble Hoy No Circula," which further limits vehicle access to the streets.

As the tax discount deadline and vehicle restrictions coincide, residents are reminded to stay informed and compliant. The authorities emphasize the importance of adhering to traffic regulations and fulfilling tax obligations to promote a safer and more sustainable environment.

In summary, with the tax benefit campaign concluding soon, residents of Mexico City and the State of Mexico are urged to take action. Whether it’s paying vehicle taxes to enjoy significant discounts or adhering to the "Hoy No Circula" regulations, staying informed and proactive is key to navigating these initiatives successfully.
