Tata Motors Expands Electric Vehicle Lineup In Mauritius

The introduction of Nexon EV, Punch EV, and Tiago EV marks Tata's first international expansion beyond SAARC.

Tata Motors has officially expanded its electric vehicle (EV) portfolio to Mauritius, introducing three popular models: the Nexon EV, Punch EV, and Tiago EV. This launch marks a significant milestone as it is the company's first international expansion beyond the SAARC region, following its recent entry into the Sri Lankan market.

The introduction of these electric vehicles is in collaboration with Allied Motors, Tata's local partner in Mauritius. Although the official pricing for these models has not been disclosed, it is anticipated that the Tiago EV will be the most affordable option, followed by the Punch EV and the Nexon EV.

The Tiago EV is equipped with a 24 kWh battery, providing an estimated real-world range of 190 to 210 kilometers based on the C75 standard. The Punch EV, featuring a 35 kWh battery, boasts a range of 270 to 290 kilometers per charge. Meanwhile, the Nexon EV, the most powerful of the trio, comes with a 45 kWh battery, delivering a real-world range of 350 to 375 kilometers.

Yash Khandelwal, Head of International Business at Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd., expressed enthusiasm about this market expansion. "We are thrilled to introduce our electric vehicle portfolio in Mauritius, marking our first international expansion beyond the SAARC region. With the government's strong commitment to sustainable mobility, Mauritius holds strategic importance in our EV journey. As a pioneer of the EV revolution in India and a proven success in SAARC markets, TATA.ev is well-positioned to support the country’s transition to electric mobility. Our diverse range of EVs—spanning multiple body styles and battery options—combined with an unmatched ownership experience and the strong partnership of Allied Motors, sets the stage for a transformative shift in Mauritius' automotive landscape," Khandelwal stated.

In addition to the vehicles, Tata Motors is offering an extensive warranty for its customers. This includes an 8-year or 160,000-kilometer warranty on the battery and motor, along with a 7-year or 150,000-kilometer warranty on the vehicle itself. Each purchase also includes a complimentary 7.2 kW home charging wall box and cable, aimed at facilitating convenient home charging for customers.

The Punch EV is available in three main variants: Smart, Adventure, and Empowered, along with several sub-variants. It offers two battery pack options of 25 kWh and 35 kWh, with claimed ranges of 265 kilometers and 365 kilometers, respectively. Notably, the Punch EV has achieved a 5-star safety rating in the Bharat NCAP crash tests, underscoring Tata's commitment to safety.

The Nexon EV is available with two battery options: 30 kWh and 45 kWh, as the 40 kWh variant has been discontinued. It is capable of recharging up to 80 percent in less than an hour, making it a practical choice for consumers looking for efficiency.

The Tiago EV has recently undergone an update, featuring several new enhancements and aesthetic modifications. Its interior now boasts a dual-tone color scheme, and the center console has been revamped to include a new freestanding 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Additionally, a new two-spoke steering wheel featuring an illuminated Tata logo has been incorporated. Other enhancements include Electronic Stability Control, a shark-fin antenna, an upgraded driver's display, and a high-definition rear parking camera.

This strategic move into Mauritius not only highlights Tata Motors' commitment to expanding its electric vehicle offerings but also aligns with the global trend towards sustainable transportation solutions. The Mauritian government has shown strong support for sustainable mobility initiatives, making it a promising market for electric vehicles.

As the automotive industry continues to evolve, Tata Motors' entry into Mauritius with its electric vehicle lineup is a significant step towards a greener future. With a focus on innovation, safety, and customer satisfaction, Tata is poised to make a substantial impact on the Mauritian automotive landscape.

In conclusion, the launch of the Nexon EV, Punch EV, and Tiago EV in Mauritius represents a strategic expansion for Tata Motors, reflecting its commitment to sustainability and innovation in the electric vehicle market. With robust warranties, complimentary charging solutions, and a diverse range of models, Tata is well-positioned to contribute to the growth of electric mobility in the region.
