TAP Air Portugal Restarts Flights To Brazil

Direct service to Porto Alegre returns after nearly year-long pause due to severe flooding

TAP Air Portugal has just announced exciting news for travelers: it will restart direct flights between Lisbon and Porto Alegre, Brazil, on April 1, 2025. This marks the return of the airline to Brazil’s southernmost capital after nearly a year-long interruption, which was due to extensive flooding affecting the region. The decision to reinstate this important route not only reconnects Portugal with one of Brazil’s vibrant cities but also showcases TAP's dedication to maintaining strong international ties.

The trio of weekly flights will operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, using TAP’s advanced Airbus A330-900neo aircraft. This modern plane offers passengers comfort with its 298-seat capacity. Travelers can expect these flights to leave Lisbon at 13:05, arriving at Porto Alegre by 20:25 after covering around 11 hours and 20 minutes of travel time. The return segment will take off from Porto Alegre at 21:55, landing back in Lisbon at 12:45 of the following day.

For those eager to make the trip, TAP Air Portugal is rolling out round-trip fares starting at €699, which includes all applicable taxes. This competitive pricing makes it more enticing than ever for people to explore the cultural richness of Porto Alegre or simply connect with friends and family.

The decision to resume flights was made possible after Porto Alegre's Salgado Filho International Airport successfully resumed operations following its temporary closure due to the disastrous flooding back in May 2024. The reopening of this airport is not just significant for TAP; it symbolizes the resilience of the local community and the importance of restoring connectivity between Brazil and Europe. With full operational capability reinstated, the airport is poised to welcome travelers from all around the globe.

This route’s revival solidifies TAP’s status as the leading airline for travel between Europe and Brazil, boasting nearly 100 weekly flights to 13 different Brazilian cities. From major hubs like São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro to other locations such as Recife, Salvador, and now Porto Alegre, TAP Air Portugal offers comprehensive service options for those looking to navigate the airways between these two culturally rich regions.

According to TAP’s spokesperson, the airline is thrilled to reconnect with Porto Alegre’s dynamic atmosphere and the growing travel market. This move underlines TAP’s commitment to support tourism and economic activities linking Portugal with Brazil, enhancing the travel options available for passengers seeking to bridge the Atlantic.

Brazil, renowned for its vibrant culture and scenic landscapes, is becoming increasingly accessible through TAP’s extensive flight network. Travelers can now enjoy seamless connections to other major cities, starting their journeys from Porto Alegre to numerous destinations worldwide.

The local tourism industry is already buzzing with the prospect of renewed flights. The southern state of Rio Grande do Sul, where Porto Alegre is located, is known for its unique gastronomy, diverse culture, and various outdoor activities. With TAP’s flights resuming, travelers can now plan their visits to experience local vineyards, stunning natural parks, and engaging historical sites.

To say the least, TAP Air Portugal’s decision to resume flights to Porto Alegre is significant, symbolizing not just the airline's operational tenacity but also the spirit of recovery for the local community. From business travelers seeking to connect to family and friends, to adventurers exploring Brazil's southern treasures, this route promises to bring people together once again.
