Tamil Nadu Class 12 Results Show Strong Performance

Girls continue to outperform boys as overall pass percentage reaches 95.03 percent

The Directorate of Government Examinations (DGE), Tamil Nadu, has officially released the results for the Class 12 Higher Secondary Examination (HSE +2) today, May 8, 2025, at 9 AM. Students can check their results online by visiting the official websites dge.tn.gov.in and tnresults.nic.in, where they will need to enter their registration number and date of birth to access their scores.

This year, a total of 7,60,606 candidates appeared for the exams, with 7,53,142 students successfully passing, resulting in an overall pass percentage of 95.03%. This reflects a steady improvement from last year’s pass percentage of 94.56%. The results will include subject-wise scores and provisional marksheets, which can be used for college admissions until the official hard copies are distributed through respective schools.

Notably, girls have once again outperformed boys in this year's results, with a remarkable pass rate of 96.7% compared to 93.16% for boys. This trend of female students excelling academically continues to be a significant highlight in Tamil Nadu's educational landscape. In previous years, girls had achieved a pass rate of 96.4% in 2024 and 92.4% in 2023, showcasing their consistent academic excellence.

Out of the 7,513 schools that participated in the Tamil Nadu HSE +2 board exams, an impressive 2,638 schools achieved a perfect 100% pass rate. This achievement underscores the dedication of educational institutions across the state to maintain high academic standards. The results are expected to be a source of pride for these schools, as they contribute to Tamil Nadu’s reputation for strong educational performance.

The board exams this year were conducted from March 3 to March 25, covering all major academic streams, including Science, Commerce, and Humanities. The practical examinations were held earlier, from February 7 to 14, 2025, allowing students to gain hands-on experience essential for their theoretical knowledge.

Students can access their results by following these simple steps: visit the official result portals, click on the link for the HSE (+2) results, and enter their registration number along with their date of birth. After submitting their details, they can download their provisional marksheet for future reference. It is advisable for students to print their results as the original marksheets will be distributed by their respective schools in the coming weeks.

In terms of gender performance, the statistics reveal that 4,19,316 boys appeared for the exams, with 3,47,670 successfully passing. Meanwhile, 3,73,178 girls participated, and an impressive 4,05,472 achieved passing marks. This year’s results reflect a continued commitment to education among female students, who have consistently shown stronger academic outcomes than their male counterparts.

The steady increase in pass percentages over the years highlights the ongoing improvements in educational quality in Tamil Nadu. The pass percentages for the last three years have been consistently above 93%, with figures of 93.76% in 2022, 94.03% in 2023, and 94.56% in 2024. The upward trend is indicative of the efforts made by schools, educators, and students alike to enhance academic outcomes.

Despite the impressive results, there has been a noticeable decline in student participation over the years. In 2019, 8,42,512 students appeared for the exams, but this number has gradually decreased, with 7,60,606 students participating this year. This trend raises questions about the accessibility and popularity of public examinations in the state.

As the results are now out, students and parents are eager to see how individual districts performed. The top-performing districts this year include Ariyalur with a pass percentage of 98.82%, Erode at 97.98%, Thirupur at 97.53%, Coimbatore at 97.48%, and Kanyakumari at 97.01%. These figures highlight regional disparities in academic performance and may influence future educational policies and resource allocation.

For students who did not achieve the desired results, the Tamil Nadu Directorate of Government Examinations has announced that supplementary exams will be conducted starting May 25, providing another opportunity for students to improve their scores.

In summary, the Tamil Nadu HSE +2 results for 2025 reflect a strong performance overall, with girls continuing to lead in academic achievement. As students move forward to the next stages of their education, the results will undoubtedly play a crucial role in shaping their futures.
