Tamil Nadu Class 12 Results 2025 Announced With 95% Pass Rate

Girls excel with higher pass percentage compared to boys in this year's HSC exams

The Directorate of Government Examinations (DGE), Tamil Nadu, has officially announced the results for the HSC (Higher Secondary Certificate) Class 12 examinations for 2025. The results were declared on May 8, 2025, at 9:15 AM during a press conference held at the Anna Centenary Library in Chennai, led by the Minister of School Education, Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi. This year, 95.03% of the students cleared the Class 12 examinations, marking a notable increase from the previous year's pass percentage of 94.56%.

The results are accessible online at the official websites tnresults.nic.in and dge.tn.gov.in. Students can also receive their results via SMS or through the DigiLocker platform, which is a convenient option for those who may face connectivity issues.

Out of the 792,494 candidates who appeared for the examinations, 753,142 students successfully passed. The gender-wise breakdown shows that girls outperformed boys, achieving a pass percentage of 96.70% compared to boys' 93.16%. This trend of female students performing better than their male counterparts has been consistent over the years.

The examinations were conducted from March 3 to March 25, 2025, across 3,316 centers, with over 45,000 invigilators ensuring the integrity of the process. The DGE has reported that 2,638 schools achieved a 100% pass rate this year, a testament to the quality of education in those institutions.

In terms of subject performance, Computer Science stood out with 9,536 students scoring perfect marks, indicating a strong interest and proficiency in technical subjects. The results for other subjects were also impressive, with significant numbers of students achieving centum scores. For instance, 3,181 students scored full marks in Chemistry, while 3,022 achieved centum in Mathematics.

Chief Minister MK Stalin took to social media to encourage students, urging them not to feel disheartened by their results. He emphasized that the results are just a stepping stone and that many opportunities lie ahead. He stated, “Regardless of the outcome, students and parents must understand that this is not the end. For those who did not pass or did not score as expected, time will surely offer many more opportunities. This is only the beginning of your life.”

The DGE also provides supplementary examinations for students who did not pass in one or more subjects. These supplementary exams are scheduled to take place in June 2025, with results expected to be declared in July. Students who wish to apply for revaluation or rechecking of their answer sheets will need to keep an eye on the official announcements regarding the application process.

Looking at the overall trends, the pass percentage has shown a steady improvement over the years. The statistics for the past five years are as follows:

The DGE has also noted that the pass percentage in government schools has improved slightly from 91.32% last year to 91.94% this year. In contrast, government-aided schools recorded a pass rate of 95.71%, while private self-financing schools achieved an impressive 98.88%.

As students prepare for their next steps, whether it be further education or vocational training, the DGE emphasizes the importance of verifying all details on their scorecards. Any discrepancies should be reported to school authorities immediately for correction.

For those interested in the district-wise performance, Ariyalur district achieved the highest pass percentage at 98.82%, followed closely by Tiruppur at 97.45% and Sivagangai at 97.42%. On the other end of the spectrum, Vellore recorded the lowest pass percentage at 90.79%.

Overall, the 2025 TN HSC results reflect a positive trend in student performance across the state, with an increasing number of students achieving high marks and a growing interest in science and technology subjects.
