Takayuki Takagi Resigns From TBS Amid Family Challenges

Former announcer plans to focus on social initiatives after wife's health issues.

Takayuki Takagi, the former TBS announcer and current manager of the CSR office, officially announced his resignation from the company during a live show on TBS Radio on December 20, 2023. Broadcasting from Akasaka Sacas, he personally addressed listeners by saying, "Actually, practically speaking, today is my last working day. I will be graduating from TBS." His announcement not only marked the end of his career at TBS, which he joined as an announcer back in 2003, but it also highlighted his current personal challenges, particularly concerning his family.

During his heartfelt farewell, Takagi expressed gratitude to his colleagues and listeners. He reflected on his time at TBS, where he was known for various roles, including being the initial host of the program Hayadoki!. After almost two decades with the network, he shifted to manage the CSR office, where he continued to strive for positive community engagement.

Despite his professional success, Takagi's personal life has taken center stage following public developments about his daughter. His wife, popular actress Mari Hoshino, revealed earlier this year their daughter has been diagnosed with congenital myopathy, a national designated illness. This news has undoubtedly influenced Takagi's decision to resign, as he commented, "I want to strive to create a society where the people around us can smile," signaling his intent to focus on social endeavors related to his family’s needs.

His colleague Eri Toyama, who has worked alongside him, expressed her dismay over Takagi's departure on air, stating, "It’s surprising to see such a passionate person leave TBS. But we will remain connected beyond this goodbye." Such sentiments reflect the respect and admiration he garnered over the years. Fellow employees expressed their best wishes for Takagi's next steps, promising continued support and friendship.

Takagi and Hoshino tied the knot in 2011, sharing moments of joy from their family life, including the birth of their daughter, who came along four years later. Yet, it is the recent revelations about their daughter’s health condition, identified as "central core myopathy," which have added depth to Takagi's sense of purpose and commitment moving forward.

Throughout his career, Takagi has been deeply invested not just in media but also community outreach. With his resignation, he aims to channel his efforts more effectively toward creating supportive environments for families facing similar challenges. His vision extends beyond personal aspirations, focusing on societal frameworks to uplift those grappling with health adversities.

The decision to step away from TBS reflects not just personal choice but a broader mission inspired by his family experiences. Takagi intends to explore various avenues aimed at fostering smiles and positivity among those around him, potentially through social welfare initiatives or charity events.

The broadcast concluded with Takagi encouraging listeners to continue supporting TBS Radio as he promised, "I will still be around, just not as your announcer." This parting note encapsulates his enduring connection to the audience, one he hopes to maintain even outside the constraints of the studio.

Takagi's resignation serves as both a personal chapter closure and the launching pad toward meaningful community engagement. His family's story, marked by both challenges and love, is sure to resonate with many, illustrating the importance of support and empathy within society.
