Switzerland has announced it is doubling its aid to Ukraine to reach $114 million for reconstruction efforts in 2025. The Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) has increased the funding allocated for a competitive program aimed at Swiss companies operating within Ukraine. This funding has risen from 50 million Swiss francs to 100 million Swiss francs (approximately $57 to $114 million USD).
This initiative marks just the beginning of a broader Swiss program designed to support Ukraine’s recovery and reconstruction. The first phase of this program is set to run from 2025 to 2028, with an estimated total budget of 1.5 billion Swiss francs (about $1.7 billion USD). Over the next 12 years, Switzerland aims to provide a total of 5 billion Swiss francs (around $5.7 billion USD) to aid in rebuilding efforts.
In addition to the competitive funding, an extra 50 million Swiss francs is earmarked for collaborations on Ukrainian reconstruction projects alongside Swiss businesses. These projects will primarily be focused on areas such as civil protection, infrastructure redevelopment, the supply of utilities, and modernization of public services.
According to officials, the expansion of this program has necessitated an extension of the application deadline for companies interested in applying to the competition, which is now set for March 31, 2025. This will allow Swiss companies, which must have a legal entity in Ukraine and can significantly contribute to the country’s economic recovery, to prepare their applications adequately.
