Suwon Samsung Triumphs Over Seoul E-Land In Korea Cup

With a 2-1 victory at home, Suwon advances to the third round of the tournament while celebrating a milestone game.

Suwon Samsung continued its strong showing in the 2025 Hana Bank Korea Cup by defeating Seoul E-Land FC 2-1 in a thrilling encounter held on March 19 at Suwon World Cup Stadium. This victory advances Suwon to the third round of the tournament.

The match was significant for Suwon, marking their 500th home game at the stadium, a milestone celebrated with a victory that had been much needed following a string of disappointing performances against Seoul E-Land.

Initially, the match was slated for March 22. However, due to scheduling conflicts with an upcoming FIFA event, the game was moved forward. The Korea Football Association announced the schedule change, taking into account the unusual cold weather conditions affecting the region.

Things didn't start well for Suwon, who faced a daunting record against Seoul E-Land, having lost four consecutive matches against them dating back to the last season. But on this occasion, they were determined to break that streak and showcased offensive prowess early on.

The first half saw both teams engaged in a stalemate, with numerous attempts to score but no breakthrough before halftime. In the 19th minute of the second half, Bruno Silva's precise pass found Il-lyeocheonko, who made no mistake with his shot, giving Suwon the lead 1-0.

Paulinho, another foreign import who played a crucial role, added to Suwon’s advantage with a stunning long-range strike in the 32nd minute of the half, making it 2-0. This goal came as Suwon pressed harder against a visibly shaken E-Land squad.

However, E-Land managed to claw back a glimmer of hope in the 41st minute, when Pedrinho scored from a corner kick, reducing the deficit to 2-1. Despite their efforts to find an equalizer, the match ended with Suwon successfully holding onto their lead.

With this win, Suwon has set its sight on the next round, where they will face Kimcheon Sangmu on April 16 at 7 PM at Kimcheon Sports Complex, as their campaign to reclaim the Korea Cup continues.

The match also served as a reminder of Suwon's capability, as the team shook off the recent defeat in their regular league encounter against E-Land, where they lost 4-2 just a few days prior on March 9. With their determined efforts and team cohesion on display, Suwon aims to rebuild momentum not only for the Korea Cup but throughout the season.
