Super Bowl LX Set For February 2026 At Levi's Stadium

The Bay Area prepares for its next major sporting event as Super Bowl LX brings excitement and economic impact.

Super Bowl LX is set to take place on February 8, 2026, at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California. This event marks the third Super Bowl for the San Francisco Bay Area and follows the venue's hosting of Super Bowl 50 back on February 7, 2016. Anticipation is building as football fans eagerly look forward to the championship game after this year’s edition concluded at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.

Super Bowl LX is poised for the spotlight as it approaches. The excitement surrounding the event is tempered, though, by uncertainty concerning which teams will compete, influencing fan interest as the NFL prepares for the 2024 season and playoffs.

Located about 42 miles from San Francisco, Levi's Stadium will once again serve as the backdrop for one of America’s most celebrated sporting events. The venue previously hosted Super Bowl 50, which drew nearly 112 million viewers as the Denver Broncos triumphed over the Carolina Panthers. Sporting events like NFL Honors and the Super Bowl Experience will take place leading up to the big day.

The planning and organization for Super Bowl LX have been extensive. On the day after Super Bowl LIX concludes, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell is expected to officially pass the ceremonial football to representatives from the Bay Area, including 49ers CEO Jed York and Santa Clara Mayor Lisa Gillmor.

Winning the bid to host Super Bowl LX has brought excitement, though it also carries with it anticipatory nerves. Zaileen Janmohamed, CEO and president of the Bay Area Host Committee, expressed her mixed emotions: “It almost doesn’t feel real. Today as I walk around, there’s this nervous anticipation of ‘OK, we’re up next.'” This area has significantly ramped up preparations, with tourism officials eager to incorporate San Jose more effectively this time around.

While Levi's Stadium has only recently hosted the Super Bowl, it underwent significant renovations, now costing approximately $200 million. The facility, which is nearing its 11th birthday, is described by Francine Melendez Hughes, Executive Vice President, as needing “a little bit of a facelift.” New video boards will debut during the 2025 season, featuring the largest 4K displays available, complementing the installation of advanced field lighting systems.

Public safety remains a priority as the NFL prepares for the event. Following safety concerns after recent incidents, including the tragic New Year's Day attack in New Orleans, Santa Clara Police Department Captain Richard Fitting assured residents, “We’re much more prepared.” Preparedness includes enhanced training and operational plans honed over numerous significant events held there over recent years.

San Jose leaders have stepped up to promote their city as the destination for fans, planning block parties, concerts, and “fan activations” to engage visitors. Mayor Matt Mahan noted, “Our vision to create this high-quality, engaging fan experience” would make San Jose appealing as fans fly, stay, and play nearby.

Perhaps the most significant influence of Super Bowl LX on the region will be economic. Estimates for the event's impact range from $370 million to $630 million, of which $100 million to $160 million could funnel directly to Santa Clara County. But experts like Roger Noll, Stanford professor emeritus, caution against overestimations of economic benefits, emphasizing the potential downsides of congestion and the temporary nature of any financial gains.

Once Super Bowl LX has concluded, Santa Clara will not languish long without attention. Success at Levi's Stadium will see it host six FIFA World Cup matches from June 13 to July 1, 2026—an exciting occurrence as both major global events converge within the same calendar year. Janmohamed hopes this will instill pride within the community saying, “The world is coming to the place we live.”

With Super Bowl LX right around the corner, Southern California has also made plans. Super Bowl 61 will be held at SoFi Stadium on February 14, 2027, and Super Bowl 62 will take place at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, each continuing to highlight the NFL's marquee events scheduled well beyond the 2026 championship game. Football fans nationwide will have ample opportunities to engage with the events and festivities surrounding them.

Mark your calendars now! The preparations and excitement for Super Bowl LX are already palpable, and fans are feeling the thrill of this major sporting event returning to the Bay Area.
