The latest episode of Suits: LA, aired on Sunday, April 20, 2025, brought emotional depth and nostalgic callbacks to the original Suits series. While Donna Paulsen did not appear onscreen, she was mentioned by Ted as he and Harvey Specter worked together to bring mobster Pellegrini back to justice. During a scene in New York, Harvey received a text from a contact saved as "My Boy," reading: "Daddy, when are you going to call?" Ted later questioned Harvey about the texts, confirming that his friend now has a son. Harvey jokingly said the boy’s name was Ted, before revealing with a smirk, "It’s Kevin. I always liked him better." The exchange not only revealed Harvey’s fatherhood but also gave fans a glimpse into his life with Donna following their wedding in the series finale. Although the LA spinoff hasn’t confirmed whether they’re still in Seattle working with Mike and Rachel, Harvey’s wedding band and mention of their child suggest the couple remains happily together.
The episode also offered a moment of emotional vulnerability as Harvey told Ted that his brother, Marcus, had died from cancer a few years ago. That moment was followed by a closing tribute: "In honor of Billy Miller," referring to the actor who played Marcus Specter. Miller passed away in September 2023 at age 43 following a battle with bipolar disorder. Adding another connection to the original series, David Costabile returned as Daniel Hardman. In a flashback, Ted questioned Hardman during the 2010 racketeering trial against Pellegrini. In the present, Harvey, Ted, and Kevin attempted to turn Pellegrini’s associates against each other by offering immunity—though Harvey later admitted that his contact, Cahill (a DOJ prosecutor played by Neal McDonough), lacked the jurisdiction to make such a deal.
Gabriel Macht’s reprisal as Harvey Specter in Suits LA marked a monumental comeback, and for more reasons than audiences might think. The 53-year-old actor recently discussed getting back in his suit since the original series ended in 2019 to fulfill a highly anticipated three-episode arc in the spinoff. Some of his first couple of scenes were shot in Rancho Park in Los Angeles, where once the actor practiced baseball while still in high school. He called the experience "extremely nostalgic." Macht reflected on this nostalgic return, stating, "So, getting into a uniform and playing baseball for that scene, not only was it nostalgic just to be Harvey again, but also to be on a set with my showrunner from the original show, Aaron [Korsh], and the directors are the same directors and writers."
When one thinks about Harvey Specter in Suits, they probably don't think about his baseball career, but it seems it was a big part of Macht's nostalgic return to the franchise. The actor touched on the impact Harvey Specter’s character had in both the TV industry and the public zeitgeist, calling it an "interesting sort of dynamic." He added, "It was not only nostalgic, but it was a sweet, sort of full-circle moment." Macht invited his father, actor Stephen Macht, to set for a "full-circle moment" as well. He reminisced, "There he is, sitting in the stands … where he used to watch me play [as a kid].”
Harvey Specter returned to the franchise in Suits LA Season 1, Episode 4 (first, as a flashback), bringing back all the smooth-talking and charm fans have come to love since he started Suits in 2011. Macht joked that Korsh made his Suits return easy in that "for once," the show’s creator didn’t make his lines "impossibly difficult." Earlier this year, Macht expressed to People that he held "little interest" in acting but was happy to take on the task "for the fans." In his most recent interview, Macht said he had "a good time" working with the old gang, though most of his parts were filmed with Specter’s long-term compadre, attorney Ted Black (Stephen Amell). In recent months, Macht called his Suits return "super surreal" and "wild in many ways," which seemed to be the case in the initial Rancho Park scenes.
Suits LA addressed the fate of Harvey Specter’s brother, Marcus Specter, during the April 20 episode. Harvey revealed that Marcus died "a few years back" from cancer. This vulnerable moment for the former leading man of Suits allowed him to seek advice from Ted, who also lost his brother. The episode featured a tribute to Miller, who died in 2023, before the credits rolled. Although Miller only appeared in a handful of Suits episodes during the show’s original run, his troubled character struck a chord with viewers. Miller, who was also known for his roles on soap operas including General Hospital, All My Children, and The Young and the Restless, died ahead of his 44th birthday in 2023.
The actor’s cause of death was ruled a suicide "with an apparent gunshot wound to the head." He was found in the bathtub with "multiple letters indicating suicidal intent" at the scene, his autopsy confirmed. Miller’s mother confirmed that he had "fought a long hard valiant battle with bipolar depression for years" before he died, adding, "He did everything he could to control the disease." She continued, "He loved his family, his friends and his fans but in the end the disease won the fight and he surrendered his life. The other causes of death being told are not true. I wish they were but they just aren’t. We all loved him so much and are desperately trying to deal with our loss. I will have nothing further to say. Thanks for the love and support." After Miller’s September 2023 death, Macht paid tribute to his former costar, stating, "RIP my tv bro #BillyMiller. I am touched by ur thoughtfulness, ur authentic honest approach 2 ur art, ur kind nature & big smile that Litt us all. May ur memory always be a blessing to ur Mother, ur Sister & her children. & 2 so many you’ve touched. Peace&Love."
As fans eagerly anticipate the next episodes of Suits LA, the show continues to blend nostalgia with heartfelt moments, ensuring that the legacy of both the original series and its beloved characters lives on.
