Strictly Stars Dianne Buswell Send Wedding Hint To Joe

Dianne Buswell and Joe Sugg take a relaxed approach to marriage and family plans despite fans’ eager anticipation

Strictly Come Dancing stars Dianne Buswell and Joe Sugg have been charming fans with their relaxed approach to love, marriage, and family life since their whirlwind romance began on the BBC dance floor in 2018. The couple’s journey from dance partners to life partners has been closely followed, sparking curiosity and anticipation about when they might take the next big step—tying the knot.

Dianne, 36, and Joe, 33, first met when paired on the hit show Strictly Come Dancing in 2018. They dazzled audiences and judges alike, making it all the way to the final before finishing as runners-up to Stacey Dooley and Kevin Clifton. Their on-screen chemistry quickly blossomed into a real-life romance, which they confirmed publicly later that same year.

Since then, their relationship has flourished away from the spotlight. By 2019, they had moved in together, and in February 2021, they purchased a luxurious £3.5 million home in London, marking a significant milestone in their life together. Yet, despite these big commitments, fans have been eagerly awaiting news of an engagement, with many wondering why Joe hasn’t yet popped the question.

Dianne recently addressed this playful curiosity during an episode of her podcast, Winning Isn’t Everything, co-hosted with fellow Strictly winner Chris McCausland. In a lighthearted conversation about fingers, Dianne pointed to her ring finger and asked, “What’s that one, your best friend finger?” Chris jokingly replied, “It’s the one Joe’s done nothing with.” To which Dianne quipped, “Exactly, we need to remind Joe what that finger holds. That finger is feeling very lonely, it needs something to weigh it down with.”

This cheeky four-word message sent to Joe perfectly captures the couple’s easy-going attitude toward marriage. Dianne has been candid about their laid-back approach, telling the Mirror, “Joe and I don’t really talk about that kind of thing. We’re both so relaxed so we just play it by ear. We really enjoy each other’s company so much and whatever happens, happens.”

Career ambitions have also been a priority for the couple. Dianne, who continues to shine as a professional dancer, has previously hinted that their focus remains on their work and enjoying their time together before making any big decisions about weddings or family. She has said that marriage is something they are “playing by ear,” reflecting a mature and thoughtful approach to their future.

Speaking about family plans, Dianne revealed in a 2024 interview that she and Joe hope to have children “when it feels right.” The Australian-born dancer acknowledged the challenges of balancing a demanding career with family life, telling The Sun in May 2025, “I would like to have children, 100 per cent. Joe and I love kids, and that’s definitely something that we would absolutely love. I haven’t really thought about how many I would like. It will definitely happen.” She also noted that managing the demands of her job alongside family life is “quite tough” at the moment but expressed confidence that they will get there eventually.

Joe, the younger brother of well-known YouTuber Zoe Sugg, was 27 when he met Dianne. He has openly shared that she is his first “proper girlfriend,” a revelation that surprised many given his public profile. In a heartfelt 2021 interview with The Sunday Times, Joe said, “Dianne is my first girlfriend. Other than, like, my pen pal from when I was 10.” He also spoke about his initial hesitation in sharing romantic photos with Dianne on social media, explaining that his audience was “very protective” of him. However, their partnership on Strictly helped fans embrace their relationship, as Joe noted, “They instantly accepted Dianne, because we were partnered on Strictly, so after the show finished and we got together, they already felt like they knew her well.”

Their social media presence has only fueled fans’ hopes for a wedding announcement. Comments from followers eagerly asking, “Can you get married?” pop up regularly under their posts, reflecting the public’s affection for the couple. Even fellow Strictly professional Johannes Radebe has joined the fun, teasing on Instagram, “If you don’t marry him Di, I will..”

Despite these playful nudges, Dianne and Joe remain focused on savoring their relationship on their own terms. They are also enjoying their extended family roles, as Dianne shared that Joe has two nieces she considers her own, while she has two nieces and two nephews in Australia, with her oldest niece being 15. She described herself as a “big fan” of her nieces and nephews and admitted, “Sometimes, I’m a big kid at heart myself. I think it helps when you can get down to their level. I’m very lucky.”

While fans continue to speculate about wedding bells, Dianne and Joe’s story is a refreshing example of a modern couple navigating love, career, and family with patience and humor. Their journey shows that sometimes, the best relationships are those where partners simply enjoy each other’s company and let life unfold naturally.
