Streaming Giants Unleash September’s Must Watch Premieres

From Netflix thrillers to Hulu documentaries and superhero blockbusters, this week’s streaming lineup brings fresh stories, big stars, and plenty of surprises across every major platform.

Streaming platforms are rolling out a dazzling array of new movies and shows this week, giving viewers a buffet of genres to sample, from hard-boiled crime thrillers and superhero blockbusters to nostalgic documentaries and animated adventures. With September 2025 in full swing, Netflix, Hulu, HBO Max, Disney+, Apple TV+, Paramount+, and more are all vying for your attention, each dropping fresh content that’s sure to spark conversation—and maybe a few binge-watching sessions.

Netflix leads the charge with the release of Black Rabbit, a dramatic thriller that hit the platform on September 18, 2025. Starring Jude Law and Jason Bateman as estranged brothers Jake and Vince Friedkin, the series quickly immerses viewers in the gritty underbelly of New York’s restaurant scene. Jake, who owns a bustling Manhattan eatery, is forced to confront old wounds and new dangers when Vince, whose life is anything but stable, returns to the fold. According to Decider, "Jake is soon reminded that Vince’s life and methods are pure chaos, and his return invites danger and turbulence into their world." The eight-episode first season is available for those ready to dive into a story of family, crime, and redemption—and critics are already praising the anxiety-inducing final episodes, with Mashable’s Belen Edwards noting, "They're claustrophobic tears through a gritty underworld that force Jake and Vince to confront the gnarled ties that bind them."

But Black Rabbit isn’t the only new series making waves. Netflix has also launched the culinary competition Next Gen Chef, which sees 21 chefs under 30 battling it out at the prestigious Culinary Institute of America. The show, hosted by Olivia Culpo and judged by Top Chef winner Kelsey Barnard Clark and master sommelier Carlton McCoy, promises high-stakes drama and a $500,000 prize. The first seven episodes landed on September 17, with the finale slated for September 24.

Over on Paramount+, the third season of Taylor Sheridan’s Tulsa King premieres September 21. Sylvester Stallone returns as Dwight "The General" Manfredi, a New York mobster trying to build a new life—and criminal empire—in Tulsa after 25 years in prison. This season, the cast expands to include Robert Patrick, Bella Heathcote, Kevin Pollak, and the legendary Samuel L. Jackson, who is set to receive his own spinoff from the series. As Decider puts it, "Tulsa King is back for season three this Sunday on Paramount+." Fans of gritty crime dramas and Stallone’s trademark tough-guy charisma will have plenty to look forward to.

Hulu is offering a nostalgic trip with Lilith Fair: Building a Mystery, a documentary chronicling the iconic all-female music tour started by Sarah McLachlan in the 1990s. Featuring interviews with McLachlan, Sheryl Crow, Fiona Apple, the Indigo Girls, and more, the film also spotlights the tour’s enduring influence on artists like Olivia Rodrigo. According to Decider, "The inside story behind the tour that traveled the world for three summers, features interviews with the artists who participated, along with the artists it inspired." The documentary premieres September 21 and is a must-watch for music lovers and anyone interested in the history of women in the industry.

HBO Max is making headlines with several releases, including the much-hyped arrival of Superman on September 19. Directed by James Gunn, the film reboots the classic superhero saga with David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. Mashable’s review describes the film as "big summer fun, with just enough laughs and action to get by," while also noting its "off-kilter visual approach" and the political undertones that run through Gunn’s vision. Whether you’re a die-hard DC fan or just in the mood for a blockbuster, Superman is poised to be one of 2025’s most talked-about releases.

HBO Max also premiered The Case Against Adnan Syed Part 5 on September 18, continuing the saga that began with the 2014 podcast Serial and the 2019 documentary. The new installment covers the overturning of Syed’s conviction and his release after 22 years in prison, featuring interviews with key figures like former Baltimore state attorney Marilyn Mosby. As Mashable notes, the series "promises to chronicle Syed's release," offering fresh insights into a case that has captivated true crime enthusiasts worldwide.

Shudder is serving up chills with Night of the Reaper, an '80s-inspired slasher from director Brandon Christensen. The film, released on September 19, follows college student Deena as she faces off against a masked killer while babysitting in her hometown. With mysterious video cassettes, walkie-talkies, and plenty of retro horror vibes, it’s a treat for genre fans.

Apple TV+ brings back Eugene Levy in The Reluctant Traveler on September 19, offering a lighter alternative for those looking to escape into travel and comedy. Meanwhile, The Morning Show returns for its fourth season, with new episodes every Wednesday beginning September 17. The show, starring Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon, picks up two years after the events of Season 3 and promises to tackle timely issues like deepfakes and AI, as Mashable’s Charlotte Stoudt teased.

Animation fans can rejoice, too. Hulu’s Futurama dropped its thirteenth season, bringing back Fry, Leela, Bender, and the rest of the Planet Express crew for more sci-fi hijinks. According to Mashable, the new season "promises the return of such wild fan favorites as the Robot Devil and Robot Santa Claus, plus callbacks to Bender's Big Score." Disney+ has also added Pixar’s Elio, a heartwarming sci-fi adventure about a misfit boy who’s mistaken for Earth’s leader by a council of aliens. Belen Edwards writes, "Elio's inventive setting and lovable main character help cast these eternal themes in a weird and wonderful new light."

Other notable releases include Haunted Hotel (Netflix), a new animated series from Rick and Morty writer Matt Roller; Gen V Season 2 (Prime Video), a spin-off of The Boys; American Sweatshop (Fandango at Home), a cyberthriller starring Lili Reinhart; and Relay (Prime Video), a New York-set thriller with Riz Ahmed and Lily James.

With so many options, the hardest part of the weekend might be deciding what to watch first. Whether you’re in the mood for pulse-pounding drama, laugh-out-loud comedy, or a trip down memory lane, streaming platforms have you covered this September. So, grab your popcorn, settle in, and let the binge-watching begin.

As streaming services compete to keep audiences glued to their screens, this week’s new releases offer a vivid snapshot of the ever-evolving entertainment landscape—and a reminder that there’s truly something for everyone.
