Stranger Things Season Five Final Episodes Release Dates

Netflix sets the last season of Stranger Things to premiere in three parts this holiday season with returning cast and new faces joining the epic conclusion

The countdown to the final chapter of one of Netflix's most beloved supernatural series has officially begun. "Stranger Things" Season 5, the much-anticipated conclusion to the saga set in Hawkins, Indiana, is set to premiere later this year, bringing with it a mix of nostalgia, suspense, and a promise of an epic showdown.

Netflix revealed at its Tudum 2025 live fan event on May 31 that the last season will be released in three parts, perfectly timed to surround the holiday season. The first four episodes will drop on November 26, 2025, just in time for Thanksgiving Eve. The next three episodes will be available on Christmas Day, December 25, and the grand finale will stream on New Year's Eve, December 31, 2025. Each volume will be released at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT, giving fans a perfect evening to binge the latest twists and turns.

This final season picks up a year after the explosive events of Season 4, plunging viewers into the fall of 1987. Hawkins is still reeling from the opening of the Rifts — a catastrophic event that unleashed chaos and fear across the town. The stakes have never been higher as the core group of heroes, including Eleven, Mike, Lucas, Will, Max, and Dustin, unite with a singular mission: to find and kill Vecna, the sinister villain whose whereabouts and plans remain shrouded in mystery.

Netflix's official synopsis sets the tone for the season: "The fall of 1987. Hawkins is scarred by the opening of the Rifts, and our heroes are united by a single goal: find and kill Vecna. But he has vanished — his whereabouts and plans unknown. Complicating their mission, the government has placed the town under military quarantine and intensified its hunt for Eleven, forcing her back into hiding. As the anniversary of Will’s disappearance approaches, so does a heavy, familiar dread. The final battle is looming — and with it, a darkness more powerful and more deadly than anything they’ve faced before. To end this nightmare, they’ll need everyone — the full party, standing together, one last time."

Fans were treated to a nostalgic teaser that both looks back at the series’ most iconic moments and offers glimpses of the new episodes. The trailer opens with a haunting narration, "I think about that night all the time," as it revisits key scenes like the Christmas lights that communicated with the Upside Down, the discovery of Eleven, and the gang’s perilous journeys into the alternate dimension. The teaser culminates with a chilling shot of Will Byers, played by Noah Schnapp, screaming "Run!" — a stark reminder of the dangers lurking ahead.

Jamie Campbell Bower, who portrays Vecna, teased the scale of the upcoming season, saying, "If season 4 was big, season 5 definitely feels bigger." This sentiment has fans bracing for a season packed with high stakes, emotional farewells, and the kind of suspense that has defined the show since its debut.

The full ensemble cast is returning, including Millie Bobby Brown (Eleven), Finn Wolfhard (Mike Wheeler), Noah Schnapp (Will Byers), Gaten Matarazzo (Dustin Henderson), Caleb McLaughlin (Lucas Sinclair), Sadie Sink (Max Mayfield), Natalia Dyer (Nancy Wheeler), Charlie Heaton (Jonathan Byers), Winona Ryder (Joyce Byers), David Harbour (Jim Hopper), Maya Hawke (Robin Buckley), and Joe Keery (Steve Harrington). Additionally, Brett Gelman, Priah Ferguson, Cara Buono, Amybeth McNulty, and Jamie Campbell Bower will reprise their roles.

Season 5 also introduces new faces to the Hawkins saga. Nell Fisher joins the cast, reportedly playing Holly Wheeler, Mike’s sister, now grown up. Linda Hamilton, famed for her role in the "Terminator" franchise, will appear as Dr. Kay, adding star power and intrigue. Jake Connelly and Alex Breaux are also new additions, playing Derek Turnbow and Lt. Akers, respectively. Their roles remain under wraps, but their inclusion hints at fresh storylines and new challenges for the characters.

Filming for the final season wrapped in December 2024, with co-creator Ross Duffer confirming the completion of production. The cast has shared bittersweet reflections on the journey. Maya Hawke, who plays Robin Buckley, described filming the final season as "heartbreaking," highlighting the emotional weight of concluding such a long and impactful story. "It’s the end of a really long journey," she said. "Longer for some of my castmates, even, than me. It’s really sentimental. We shoot for a long time, so it’s reinvigorating [to bring] the joy and finding it every day and making it new. It’s a really fun thing to do."

Since its premiere on July 15, 2016, "Stranger Things" has become a cultural phenomenon, blending 1980s nostalgia with supernatural thrills and heartfelt character arcs. The series has garnered a devoted fanbase, critical acclaim, and numerous awards, cementing its place in television history.

Though the series is ending, the story’s universe continues to expand. "Stranger Things: The First Shadow," a play that debuted on London’s West End in 2023 and transferred to Broadway in early 2025, explores the origins of the Upside Down and the early days of Hawkins’ dark secrets, offering fans a new way to engage with the beloved world.

As the final season approaches, fans worldwide are preparing for one last journey into the eerie town of Hawkins. The promise of closure, the return of cherished characters, and the looming threat of Vecna's darkness have set the stage for a dramatic conclusion that will resonate for years to come.

Mark your calendars for November 26, December 25, and December 31, 2025 — three dates that will bring the "Stranger Things" saga to a close, delivering the final thrills, mysteries, and emotional moments fans have been waiting for.
