Stormy Weather Expected In Lyon This Weekend

Météo France warns of thunderstorms and heavy rain starting Sunday afternoon across the Rhône department.

Météo France has issued a warning for stormy weather expected to sweep across Lyon and surrounding areas starting Sunday, May 11, 2025. Following a bright and sunny Saturday, the weather is set to take a turn for the worse as stormy showers are anticipated to affect a large portion of the Rhône department.

According to Météo France, the storms are expected to begin in the late afternoon and continue into the evening, particularly impacting Lyon. The northern regions of the Rhône are likely to experience more intense storms, with gusts of wind reaching up to 40 km/h. While most areas will be affected by these stormy conditions, the southern parts of the department, especially those bordering Vienne in Isère, are forecasted to remain largely unaffected.

As the stormy weather unfolds, residents are advised to take precautions, especially those engaged in outdoor activities sensitive to changing weather conditions. Météo France has emphasized the importance of staying informed about the evolving situation, particularly for those in areas under alert.

In addition to Lyon, Météo France has placed 31 departments across the western half of France on yellow alert for storms on Saturday, May 10, 2025. This includes regions such as Allier, Ariège, Charente, Charente-Maritime, Côtes d'Armor, Creuse, Dordogne, Finistère, Haute-Garonne, and several others. The alert is in response to the potential for thunderstorms that could impact these areas throughout the day.

While the stormy weather is expected to dominate the forecast, the majority of France will enjoy sunny conditions with pleasant temperatures, reaching as high as 22 °C in Paris. However, the departments of Tarn and Haute-Garonne are also warned of potential violent winds, adding to the weather-related concerns for the weekend.

Looking ahead, the bad weather is expected to persist into the early part of the following week. Rainfall is anticipated on Monday, Tuesday, and possibly Wednesday, affecting nearly the entire Rhône department. The return of clearer skies and better weather conditions is not expected until Thursday, May 15, 2025.

With the changing weather patterns, it’s crucial for residents to remain vigilant and prepared for the stormy conditions that lie ahead. Météo France continues to monitor the situation closely and will provide updates as necessary to ensure public safety.
