Stevie Wonder Set To Headline Blackweir Music Series

The iconic artist returns to Cardiff after 50 years for a highly anticipated performance.

Legendary singer-songwriter Stevie Wonder is set to headline the newly announced Blackweir music series this summer, returning to Cardiff for the first time since the early 1970s. On July 9, 2025, the iconic artist will showcase his Love, Light & Song show at Blackweir Fields, located on the banks of the River Taff. This eagerly awaited performance marks one of only three outdoor UK dates on Wonder's schedule for the year.

The announcement of Wonder's gig at Blackweir follows the excitement generated by the entire music series, which kicks off with folk singer Noah Kahan on June 27, followed by rock band Kings of Leon, who will perform on June 29. Renowned singer Alanis Morissette will bring her world tour to the stage on July 2, and heavy metal giants Slayer will headline on July 3.

Astronomical talent has been the hallmark of Stevie Wonder's storied career, which spans over six decades. The 74-year-old musician boasts 49 Top 40 singles, 32 of which have reached number one, and worldwide sales exceeding 100 million units. His impressive accolades include 25 GRAMMY Awards, the GRAMMY Lifetime Achievement Award, a Golden Globe, and even an Academy Award. His album, Songs in the Key of Life, is preserved by the National Recording Registry of the Library of Congress for its cultural significance.

The founder of DEPOT Live, Nick Saunders, expressed enthusiasm about Wonder’s upcoming performance, stating, “It is more than 50 years since Stevie Wonder last performed in Cardiff, so we are incredibly excited to be welcoming him to Blackweir.” He emphasized the historical significance of this concert and predicted it would be “a night filled with hits and one...that I am sure will live long in the memory.”

Cuffe and Taylor co-founder, Peter Taylor, echoed Saunders' sentiment, noting, “Stevie Wonder is without doubt a legend who...has continued to amaze audiences everywhere with his talent.” Taylor expressed pride at attracting such a prominent figure to the new concert venue and hinted at the excitement for concert-goers, saying, “Cardiff is in for a treat with this concert.”

Fans of all ages can expect to enjoy Wonder’s greatest hits, which include beloved classics such as “For Once in My Life,” “Signed, Sealed, Delivered I’m Yours,” “I Just Called to Say I Love You,” and “Superstition.”

Alongside the Cardiff event, Wonder is also confirmed to perform at the Lytham Festival on July 3, 2025. This high-profile festival kicks off with another headliner, Kings of Leon, on July 2, followed by performances from pop treasures such as Justin Timberlake, Alanis Morissette, Simple Minds, and Texas during its five-day run.

Peter Taylor, co-founder of the Lytham Festival, expressed his excitement about Wonder's involvement, declaring, “He’s a global icon, a superstar, and to get him to come to Lytham is a coup for us.” Taylor highlighted Wonder's set length, noting it would span three hours, making it a monumental occasion for festival attendees.

Reflecting on his 15-year effort to secure Wonder for the Lytham Festival, Taylor remarked, “I met him in LA eight years ago and we chatted, but the stars had never aligned before now.” He continued, “We have over 100,000 people come to the festival now, so we've definitely put Lytham on the map,” underscoring the event’s evolution as both significant for tourism and the community.

This year, as Cardiff embraces the Blackweir music series and Lytham Festival takes center stage, fans have much to look forward to from one of music’s most enduring and innovative talents, Stevie Wonder.
