Stephen Curry's Injury Sparks Hope For Quick Return

Warriors star set to be re-evaluated soon as team embarks on critical road trip.

Stephen Curry did not accompany the Golden State Warriors as they embarked on their six-game road trip, but there's a glimmer of hope that the basketball star could rejoin the squad sooner rather than later. The optimism comes after Curry suffered a pelvic contusion during the Warriors' thrilling 117-114 victory against the Toronto Raptors on March 20, 2025.

During that game, Curry made a pivotal play by driving into the lane and passing the ball to a teammate just before taking a hard spill onto the court. He was subsequently unable to return to the game and headed to the locker room for further evaluation. In the aftermath of this incident, the Warriors made it clear that Curry would remain in San Francisco to receive treatment and undergo a re-evaluation scheduled for March 24, 2025.

Head coach Steve Kerr offered a beacon of hope regarding Curry’s recovery timeline, stating, "Steve Kerr said he is hopeful that Steph Curry will rejoin the Warriors at some point on this road trip," as reported by ESPN's Ohm Youngmisuk. The Warriors are set to play several games over the next week, starting with a matchup against the Atlanta Hawks on March 22, followed by encounters with the Miami Heat on March 25, New Orleans Pelicans on March 28, San Antonio Spurs on March 30, Memphis Grizzlies on April 1, and wrapping it up against the Los Angeles Lakers on April 3.

Currently, Curry is averaging an impressive 24.2 points, 6.0 assists, and 4.4 rebounds per game, showcasing his pivotal role on the team. However, before this injury, Kerr noted that Curry had been displaying signs of mental fatigue, stating, “The last three games I think he’s been tired, but it’s more of a mental and emotional fatigue than physical,” during a post-game press conference following a loss to the Denver Nuggets on March 17. "He’s fine physically. When he’s emotionally tired, it affects his decision-making. He’s a little bit out of sorts.”

This assessment raises the possibility that, while unfortunate, the pelvic contusion could serve as a blessing in disguise. It affords Curry a necessary break to reset both his body and mind, potentially setting him up for a surge as the playoffs approach.

The Warriors, who hold a record of 41-29 as they enter their matchup against Atlanta, are currently positioned as the No. 6 seed in the competitive Western Conference. With the Los Angeles Clippers and Minnesota Timberwolves closely trailing just one game behind, securing a solid playoff spot remains essential. This road trip will be particularly crucial, not only for their playoff contention but also to build momentum as they head into the postseason.

In their pursuit of playoff placement, the upcoming game against the Lakers looms large. The Warriors have already faced the Lakers three times this season, suffering defeats in all encounters. However, with only three losses separating the two teams in the standings and the Lakers currently struggling, the April 3 clash could prove pivotal for both teams.

As the Warriors prepare to hit the road, there’s a collective hope not just for Curry’s return, but also for a display of resilience as they aim to solidify their playoff aspirations. All eyes will be on the re-evaluation outcome on March 24, providing insight into whether Curry will make a timely comeback to reinforce his team's playoff bid.
