Stefan Raab's Hit Show Goes Free On RTL

Starting February 12, fans can watch "Du gewinnst hier nicht die Million" without subscription fees.

Fans of Stefan Raab will soon have the chance to catch their favorite entertainer on linear television without the need for subscriptions. Starting February 12, 2025, his show "Du gewinnst hier nicht die Million" will air every Wednesday at 8:15 PM on RTL, marking the show's transition from exclusive streaming on RTL+ to free-to-air broadcasting.

The introduction of this format on traditional television is highlighted by the presence of political heavyweight Robert Habeck, Germany's Green Party candidate for chancellor, as the first guest. This appearance is strategically timed just days before the upcoming federal elections on February 23, allowing Raab to engage with current political topics as well as personal anecdotes from Habeck's life, appealing to viewers interested in both entertainment and news.

Raab's decision to return to linear television follows mixed results after the initial launch of "Du gewinnst hier nicht die Million" on RTL+ back in September 2024. Although the debut episode attracted 790,000 viewers, subsequent episodes witnessed significant declines, causing the network to rethink its strategy. RTL Chief Content Officer, Ing Leschek commented, "With 'Du gewinnst hier nicht die Million' we celebrated the most successful streaming-only launch ever and drew new audiences for RTL+. Now we are igniting the next stage of our plan by making the show available to even broader audiences." This statement encapsulates the objective to reinvigorate Raab's visibility and influence.

Leschek emphasized the importance of appealing to demographics not fully engaged with streaming content, particularly targeting men aged 30 to 49—a significant audience for the show. With approximately 70 percent of new RTL+ subscribers within this age range, Raab's show serves as both entertainment and market strategy, aimed directly at attracting viewers who were pivotal to his previous successes.

The show will continue to deliver the same dynamic format recognized from Raab’s past. Each week, contestants will compete against Raab for the chance to win one million euros through various quiz and duel rounds. The interactive nature of the show, complemented by Raab's signature humor, promises to maintain viewer engagement. The show will also provide previews on RTL+, allowing subscribers early access to the latest episodes before their linear broadcast. This dual approach not only retains streaming viewers but also draws new audiences to RTL at prime time.

A notable aspect of the show’s airing schedule is its direct competition with "TV Total," the iconic show Raab created and hosted until 2015. The nostalgic rivalry serves as both a compelling element for long-time viewers and as marketing leverage for the new show, reminding audiences of Raab's influential past and reaffirming his place within the current media environment.

While promoting his comeback, Raab also reveals plans to host three preliminary rounds for the 2025 Eurovision Song Contest—titled "Chefsache ESC 2025 - Wer singt für Deutschland?"—scheduled for February 14, 15, and 22. Raab's involvement not only heightens interest for the show but also reinforces the strategic collaboration between RTL and the Eurovision franchise, enhancing his entertainment portfolio.

Host and entertainer Elton will reprise his role as the game show leader, adding familiarity and charm to the proceedings. The combination of diverse guest appearances, including renowned television personality Barbara Schöneberger, weaves entertainment and politics seamlessly, ensuring viewers remain captivated week after week.

With the premiere quickly approaching, anticipation builds around how Raab’s re-entry will shape viewership patterns against established rivals. The integration of his work both online and through traditional media is indicative of the broader trend within the industry—where adaptability and accessibility become key components of success. "Stefan Raab für alle - umsonst!" is not just the tagline for the show, but also reflective of RTL's ambition to broaden its appeal and deliver quality entertainment across platforms.

By embracing both streaming and linear viewers, Raab not only seeks effectiveness through viewership but also aims to reclaim his legacy—a formidable force within the German entertainment scene. Monday evenings will offer more than just competition. They will feature laughter, jeopardy, and camaraderie—elements characteristic of Raab’s productions.
