State Departments Adjust Operations For Labor Day Holiday

Goiás and Barra dos Coqueiros announce changes for Labor Day observance while essential services remain active.

The operation of state public departments in Goiás will be altered due to the national holiday of Labor Day on Thursday, May 1, 2025. Governor Ronaldo Caiado signed Decree No. 10.682, which was published in the State Official Gazette (DOE) on April 22, establishing an optional point on Friday, May 2, 2025. Normal service will resume on Monday, May 5, 2025.

Essential services, however, will continue to operate normally during this period. This means that sectors such as health, public safety—including both Civil and Military police, and the Fire Department—will remain active. Additionally, the government’s communication channels, as well as fiscal and revenue collection services, will also be in operation.

For those utilizing Vapt Vupt services, all units will be closed on Labor Day, May 1, both in the capital and in the interior. On Friday, May 2, Vapt Vupt will operate from 8 AM to 1 PM, with the exception of standard Detran and Procon units in Goiânia and the Jussara unit, which will not be open.

The Department of Transit of Goiás (Detran-GO) and the Regional Transit Circumscriptions (Ciretrans) will be closed on May 1 and May 4, with face-to-face service resuming on Monday, May 5. Detran-GO has also advised that any documents, fees, or fines due during the holiday can be settled on the next business day without incurring additional charges. During this time, digital services will remain available through the official website, the Portal Expresso, and the Detran GO ON app.

The Restaurante do Bem, which operates 16 units, will also close on Labor Day. However, on Friday, May 2, they will resume normal operations, serving meals from 10 AM to 2:30 PM at a symbolic price of R$ 2.

The Procon headquarters will be closed on May 1 and 2, with in-person service and the Disque-Denúncia (151) resuming on Monday, May 5. Consumers can still register complaints and reports through the Procon Web platform during the holiday.

On the other hand, Ceasa, the Central Supply Market of Goiás, will operate normally from 3 AM to 2 PM on both May 1 and May 2, although the administrative sector will be closed on May 1, reopening on May 5.

In terms of cultural activities, spaces managed by the State Department of Culture (Secult), such as Cine Cultura and Centro Cultural Martim Cererê in Goiânia, along with Cine Teatro São Joaquim in the city of Goiás, will remain open during the Labor Day holiday from May 1 to May 4.

On May 1, Cine Cultura will premiere "Homem Com H," a cinebiography of Ney Matogrosso directed by Luna, featuring Jesuíta Barbosa. Concurrently, the Centro Cultural Martim Cererê is hosting the 2nd edition of the Rap Ground Festival, which will continue on Labor Day with free admission upon the donation of one liter of long-life milk.

Sunday, May 4, will see the Martim Cererê hosting the International Breaking Circle Wiba Brazil Festival from 2 PM to 11 PM. Meanwhile, the Centro Cultural Octo Marques will be closed on both the holiday and the following Friday, but will reopen on Saturday, May 3, and Sunday, May 4, from 9 AM to 5 PM.

Other cultural venues, such as Vila Cultural Cora Coralina, will be closed during the holiday and the following Friday, returning to normal operations on Monday, May 5.

In the city of Goiás, the Cine Teatro São Joaquim is set to host the play "A Trança Perdida" by Anna Behatriz Azevedo on May 1 and 2 at 7 PM, with free entry. Additionally, a benefit show for Mother's Day featuring Gilberto Nunes and guests will take place on Saturday, May 3, also at 7 PM with free admission.
