Stalin Honors Legacy Of Late CPI Leader Nallakannu At Centenary Event

The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister calls for unity against social injustices, celebrating the impact of Nallakannu's life and work.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin paid heartfelt tributes to the late senior Communist Party of India (CPI) leader R Nallakannu during the centenary celebrations held at Kalaivanar Arangam on December 29. Stalin described Nallakannu as not just a leader, but also as a guide and example for all public figures.

Stalin took to social media platform X to express, "Let us honor and praise the life of Comrade Nallakannu Ayya, who was a leader - a guide - and an example for all of us in public life!" He urged the audience to cultivate the Dravidian-communist ideology for the benefit of the people, echoing Nallakannu's commitment to their well-being.

The Chief Minister, articulately acknowledging Nallakannu's significant contributions, stated, "I feel proud to participate in the freedom fighter and CPI senior leader R Nallakannu centenary year program." He referenced the late former DMK chief Karunanidhi, who remarked on Nallakannu's extensive experience and influence.

At the event, Stalin highlighted Nallakannu's unwavering dedication to the principles of communism and his relentless efforts to uplift marginalized communities. He stated, "The centenary gift we can give to Comrade Nallakannu is for democratic forces to work together against casteism, communalism, majoritarianism, authoritarianism, and hegemony." This call to action was met with applause from those present.

Stalin went on to discuss the historical roots connecting the Dravidian and Communist movements, drawing attention to the significant role of Thanthai Periyar, the father of the Dravidian movement, who was the first to translate and publish the Communist Party manifesto, authored by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels, in Tamil. This connection reflects the deep ideological similarities between the two movements.

The Chief Minister praised Nallakannu for his selflessness, noting his ability to inspire collective action for social justice and equality. He emphasized Nallakannu's significant influence on the social and political fabric of Tamil Nadu, primarily through his steadfast opposition to casteism and communalism.

During the centenary celebrations, Stalin also released a poetry collection and anthem dedicated to Nallakannu's legacy, demonstrating the enduring impact made by the veteran leader. The event drew numerous dignitaries, including MDMK General Secretary Vaiko, celebrated lyricist Vairamuthu, renowned scientist Mayilsamy Annadurai, and esteemed actor Sivakumar, who all gathered to honor the legacy of R Nallakannu amid spirited discussions on unity and collaboration for social welfare.

Stalin’s remarks reinforced Nallakannu's status as more than just a politician; he was portrayed as a beacon for social justice and democratic ideals. The CM's heartfelt tribute and his recollections of Nallakannu’s dedication showcased the importance of sustaining the principles of equality, justice, and social welfare as the cornerstones of progressive politics.

By reflecting on Nallakannu’s life, we see how the legacy of political alliances grounded in shared principles can drive collective efforts toward societal change. Stalin's call for democratic forces to unify against injustices resonates with Nallakannu’s own lifelong mission, ensuring his ideals continue to inspire future generations.
