St. Matthäus Community Celebrates Successful 2025 Sternsinger Campaign

Community rallying raises over €11,580 for children's rights projects in Kenya and Colombia.

The 2025 Sternsinger Charity Campaign organized by the St. Matthäus parish community in Dorsten has been hailed as a significant success. According to David Rikels, the parish youth worker, around 90 children and teenagers, alongside 30 dedicated volunteers, raised an impressive total of €11,580.13 during the campaign. The collected funds are set to benefit projects focused on children's rights and improved living conditions for children in Kenya and Colombia.

The St. Matthäus community expressed heartfelt gratitude to all the Sternsingers and the committed team of helpers who participated so actively on January 4 and 6, 2025. This event saw approximately 90 children and youth supported by 30 volunteers, all of whom played pivotal roles in making the campaign such a successful endeavor.

Notably, the St. Barbara kindergarten actively participated as well, with preschoolers contributing to the campaign's overall success with their own impressive efforts.

The tremendous fundraising effort showcased various results across different locales within the community. Reports reveal €1,154.90 was raised in Barkenberg, €2,708.67 in Deuten, and approximately €7,716.56 came from Wulfen. Rikels highlighted these figures as evidence of the outstanding solidarity and social commitment within the community.

The funds raised will contribute to two regions: Turkana, located in northern Kenya, where children face severe challenges such as inadequate education, poor healthcare, and extreme weather conditions. A partner organization is addressing these issues by advocating for children’s rights and operating schools aimed at providing protection and future opportunities.

Meanwhile, children in Colombia often endure violence and neglect. A Sternsinger project organization is working to support them through peace education, participatory programs, and therapeutic initiatives, helping them process trauma and instilling hope.

The Sternsinger Charity Campaign has once again emphasized the idea of solidarity transcending geographical boundaries and serving as a powerful tool for addressing global challenges.
