After a week of cold weather, spring is finally returning to the Republic of Moldova. The State Hydrometeorological Service (SHS) has announced a gradual warming trend starting this weekend, bringing relief to those who have endured days of gloomy skies and low temperatures. According to meteorologists, the coming days will feature more sunshine and milder temperatures, although nights will remain cool with possible isolated frosts.
This weekend, specifically on April 12-13, 2025, no precipitation is expected, making it an ideal time for outdoor activities. In the northern regions of Moldova, daytime highs will range from +7 to +9°C, while the central part of the country will see temperatures between +8 and +11°C. The southern regions are expected to be warmer, with highs reaching +11 to +12°C. Nighttime temperatures will vary from 0 to +3°C on the nights of April 12 and 13, and will rise slightly to between +1 and +6°C on April 14.
The wind will be light to moderate, and there is a possibility of weak, isolated fog on the night of April 13. In Chisinau, the capital, pleasant weather is also forecasted for the weekend, with highs of up to +11°C on Saturday and reaching as high as 15°C on Sunday.
Looking ahead, the week of April 14-20, 2025, is expected to bring further increases in temperature and continued pleasant conditions. In Chisinau, maximum temperatures will range from 16°C to 21°C, while minimum temperatures will fluctuate between 4°C and 10°C. Light to moderate winds will persist, and precipitation levels are anticipated to remain low, which bodes well for those planning outdoor activities. Notably, the weather during the Easter weekend is expected to be beautiful, with minimal chances of rain.
However, it is worth noting that the previous week was characterized by much colder conditions, strong winds, and frosts that affected the entire Republic of Moldova, including agricultural operations. Low temperatures and nighttime frosts had a significant impact on sensitive crops such as vegetables and fruit trees, particularly in the northern regions. Farmers were compelled to take protective measures against the cold to prevent damage to their crops.
Meanwhile, in Romania, winter conditions are still affecting certain areas. On April 12, 2025, traffic on DN 7A, which connects Voineasa, Vidra, and Obârșia Lotrului, is being reported under winter conditions due to heavy snowfall and blizzard conditions. The authorities are advising drivers to avoid traveling on road sections experiencing snowfall unless their vehicles are equipped for winter driving.
According to a report from RRA correspondent Ana Maria Cârstea, the Regional Directorates of Roads and Bridges in Craiova are actively working to manage the situation. Snow is also reported on the roads at Rânca on DN 67C and on DN 13B in Harghita, further complicating travel in those areas.
As the weather continues to fluctuate, residents in both Moldova and Romania are urged to stay informed and prepared for changing conditions. While spring is making its way into Moldova, winter is still holding on in parts of Romania, creating a stark contrast in weather experiences across the region.
