The cultural calendar of Romania is bursting with exciting art exhibitions and events lined up for this spring, showcasing the talents of local and national artists. On March 4, at 4 PM, Biblioteca Județeană „Alexandru Odobescu” Călărași will host the opening of the visual art exhibition titled Eternul Feminin, now at its sixth edition. Curated by Ana Amelia Dică, this event brings together works from various artists across the country, celebrating themes of femininity and nature, all intertwined with the symbolic essence of spring, which signifies renewal and hope.
"The exhibition gathers works signed by local and invited artists from across the country, focusing on femininity and nature, harmonizing with the symbolism of spring," Dică stated, emphasizing the artistic approach to showcasing the beauty and sensitivity of the feminine universe through diverse artistic techniques.
Among the notable artists participating are Otilia Anastase, Mariana Constantinescu, and Natalia Badan, each contributing unique perspectives on the theme. Their works will be displayed at the library’s exhibition space, intended for public viewing during the following days.
Meanwhile, the Muzeul Județean "Alexandru Ștefulescu" located in Târgu Jiu will host another significant exhibition on March 3, 2025, exploring the mechanisms of misinformation and its impact on public perception. Organized by Funky Citizens, with support from the British Embassy, this marks the first stop of a national tour aimed at raising awareness about the importance of media literacy.
Attendees can expect an interactive experience focused on the phenomenon of fake news. "This exhibition offers a unique opportunity to learn how to navigate through the waves of information we are bombarded with daily," said a Funky Citizens representative. Event-goers will engage with immersive installations, including one replicative chamber capturing the atmosphere of the 1989 Romanian Revolution, practical tools for identifying false news, and case studies relevant to the Romanian media environment.
The exhibition's opening is set for 6 PM, inviting participants to mingle within a relaxed atmosphere, preceded by introductions from the project team. The exhibition is open until March 9, with opportunities for free discussions about the pressing issues surrounding misinformation.
On March 5, at 6 PM, there will be thematic discussions on the impact of disinformation, tackling false narratives during electoral campaigns and their influence on voting behavior, moderated by Elena Calistru, president of Funky Citizens. This event promises to bring valuable insights with guests from the British Embassy, creating a platform for the exchange of ideas on combating fake news.
Further exhibitions are also lined up at the Muzeul de Artă Brașov, which recently unveiled its exhibition schedule for the spring-summer season. The museum welcomes visitors to explore various artistic perspectives, blending tradition, memory, and innovation within its collections.
The current exhibition, named Patriciatul săsesc. O pagină din istoria Brașovului, presenting 18th-century portraits of notable Brașov personalities, will be open until March 16. Following this, the exhibition Adela Petrescu: geometria unui vis pictural will showcase the work of post-war female artist Adela Petrescu, featuring her works alongside a film about her life created by Maria Grigorescu.
On March 20, the exhibition Lectura în artă: între realitate și simbol will open, examining the role of reading depicted through art. Curated by Alexandra Ilnițchi-Ardelean, it aims to explore how literature and art intersect and shape societal ideologies.
April will continue the excitement with Topografii rescrise, showcasing four local photographers' interpretations of the urban and collective memory through visual storytelling.
From April 25, viewers can enjoy the solo show by contemporary artist Bogdan Mihai Radu, who will present landscapes inspired by expressionism.
Finally, Brașov will host the exhibition Brașov, oraș al artelor on May 30, celebrating 20 artists who have created works within museum spaces, as part of the 'Re:Imagine Brașov' event series.
This series of exhibitions not only showcases the artistic talent of Romanian artists but also highlights pressing societal themes and encourages public engagement with cultural conversations. Each exhibition offers the chance to encounter diverse perspectives and unique approaches to complex topics.
Attendees are warmly invited to experience the vibrancy of Romania’s art scene, making these exhibitions not to be missed this spring.
