Spectacular Circus Shows Set To Dazzle Audiences This Spring

Community performers take the spotlight at Triton College and thrilling acts ignite FL!P Circus at Garden State Plaza.

The Circus Comes Alive: A Teeming Showcase of Talent Hits Chicago and New Jersey

This spring, the joy and wonder of live circus performances return to audiences with two spectacular shows: the 52nd annual Triton Troupers Circus at Triton College and the vibrant FL!P Circus at the Westfield Garden State Plaza.

The Triton Troupers Circus, set to enthrall spectators from April 10 to April 13, 2025, will feature over 100 performers showcasing their skills as they bring to life this year's theme of "Las Vegas." Circus director Hannah Jeselski, herself a dedicated performer since 2011, shared her excitement stating, "This is the biggest cast we have had in a very long time." Performances will be held at the R Building Gymnasium, located at 2000 5th Ave., River Grove, with shows starting at 7 p.m. on Thursday through Saturday, and matinees at 1 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.

Jeselski emphasized the circus's appeal to all ages, highlighting the unique charm of community performers: "It’s put on by community members, your regular everyday neighbors... all done right in front of you. You’re right in the middle of the action." This year marks the introduction of magic illusions to the show, adding excitement and novelty to the performance.

Among the returning cast is Jeffrey Dixon of Westmont, who has rejoined the Triton Troupers after first performing from 1993 to 1998. At 44, Dixon finds camaraderie and joy among fellow performers, stating, "It’s cool to be 44 and out there doing tricks." He will showcase unicycling, juggling, and tightwire talents during the performances.

Another seasoned performer, Lynn Zumstein from Plainfield, shared her rich experience, having been part of the circus for over 20 years. "I started my circus career at Illinois State University, and when I moved back to this area, I ended up joining the Triton Troupers," she said. Zumstein's roles include juggling, tightwire acts, and serving as one of the ringmasters.

Meanwhile, first-time performer Cheryl Rotundo from Forest Park discovered the circus through friends, stating, "Everybody has been so welcoming for those of us who have no experience with circus arts or acrobatics or gymnastics." Rotundo has been preparing for her tightwire act since January, embodying the spirit of community engagement.

Meanwhile, across the country, the FL!P Circus is ready to light up the stage at the Westfield Garden State Plaza from March 21 to April 1, 2025. This engaging show, known for its high-energy and family-friendly performances, will take place under its signature red and white striped climate-controlled tent, seating 800 spectators with none more than 50 feet from the action.

Ringmaster Jan Vazquez, along with his sister Carolina, both fourth-generation performers, lead this year’s cast. Vazquez encourages families to immerse themselves fully, inviting them to leave their cares behind: "It’s a show you won’t want to miss!" Performances will be held at 7 p.m. on weekdays, with additional showings at 1 p.m., 4 p.m., and 7 p.m. on weekends.

This year's incredible line-up showcases international talent, including Johnny Rico from Spain, who is set to deliver his unique comedic flair for the first time at FL!P Circus. The Bravuuri Troupe from Finland will dazzle with their blend of skating and acrobatics, joining forces with Hungary's Duo Fossett, who present an aerial pole act featuring elements of depth-defying artistry.

Father and son Duo Marrufo from Brazil will wow audiences with their impressive hand-balancing act, deftly showcasing superhuman strength and coordination. Adding to the mix are the Bone Breakers from West Africa, renowned for their stunning contortion acts, and the energetic Bingo Troupe from Ukraine, blending dance, acrobatics, and aerial artistry for pure entertainment thrill.

At FL!P Circus, delightful concession stands will keep audiences munching, with offerings catering to various tastes, enhancing the carnival ambiance associated with circuses.

Tickets for both circuses remain accessible, with Triton Troupers selling at $10 cash either online or at the door. Meanwhile, FL!P Circus tickets start at $15 for children and $50 for adults, with discounts available for seniors, military personnel, and families. Each circus presents not only thrilling performances but also memories meant to last.

With their unique flavors and diverse casts, both the Triton Troupers Circus and the FL!P Circus promise to bring joy and inspiration to families this spring.
