Spanish TV Gears Up For Festive Christmas Day Programming

Viewers can expect varied films and special shows across networks, catering to family audiences this December 25th.

On Christmas Day 2024, Spanish television promises a plethora of options for families and viewers seeking festive entertainment. With many families gathering for celebratory meals, others may turn to their screens to enjoy special programming. This year, unlike many others, television networks are filling their slots primarily with films rather than the more traditional holiday specials.

The leading channel, La 1, will present 'El hotel de los líos (García y García 2)', starring Pepe Viyuela, José Mota, and Paz Padilla, at 10 p.m. Initially, TVE planned to air a special segment of 'La Revuelta' during prime time. Still, following complications with the show's recording featuring artist Raphael, the network opted to replace this program with cinematic offerings. Throughout the day, viewers can look forward to movie replays including 'The Family Man' at 4 p.m., 'Todos están bien' at 6 p.m., and 'Ojalá fuera cierto' at 7:30 p.m., before the star feature at night.

Meanwhile, La 2 will celebrate Christmas with classical music through the 'Los conciertos de La 2', starting at 12:15 with the 'Concierto de Navidad Orquesta Sinfónica RTVE', followed by another concert at 8:30 p.m. The network will also showcase the 'Cifras y letras: Especial de Navidad' at 10 p.m., featuring humor, wit, and charity efforts. Comedians Joaquín Reyes and Eva Soriano will add their flair to this festive special.

Antena 3 is set to debut 'Dog. Un viaje salvaje' at 10:45 p.m., featuring Channing Tatum. The film chronicles the touching story of U.S. Army Ranger Briggs, who must transport his canine companion Lulu to attend the funeral of her handler. The channel will air various films throughout the day, including 'La hija del rey' at 4 p.m. and 'Princesa en la nieve' at 5:50 p.m.

Cuatro will present 'Harry Potter y las reliquias de la muerte. Parte 2' at 3:30 p.m., followed by 'El niño que pudo ser rey' at 5:50 p.m. Later, they will air 'Green Book', featuring the powerful narrative of two individuals confronting racism during their travels.

Telecinco's lineup includes specials of 'Socialité' showcasing how celebrities celebrate the holidays, followed by 'Cine 5 Estrellas' featuring 'El pasajero' starring Liam Neeson at 10 p.m. The network will conclude the night with 'El americano' at midnight.

Finally, La Sexta has scheduled the premiere of 'Animales fantásticos: los secretos de Dumbledore' at 5:30 p.m., weaving together familiar magical elements with gripping storytelling. Their night fare will include '¡Qué suene la música!', centered around the lives of military wives creating a chorus, emphasizing community and resilience.

It's clear from the programming choices on various channels this Christmas Day 2024, Spanish families will have ample options to gather around the television, offering both comforting classics and fresh cinematic experiences. With a mix of family entertainment, music, and heartwarming stories, the television lineups seem set to create memorable festive moments.
