Spain Prepares For Spring Tourism Season 2025

Cultural festivals and appealing prices highlight Spain's beauty this March.

Spain is gearing up for its 2025 tourism season, and March is already shaping up to be quite the spectacle. With the arrival of warmer weather, the country will see its landscapes bloom, alongside vibrant cultural festivals and events. Yet, it’s not all about celebrations; travelers also need to keep their eyes on hotel prices as they plan their getaways.

According to the Spanish National Statistics Institute (INE), hotel prices have seen significant changes this year. Marbella, on the Costa del Sol, stands out as the priciest spot, where hotel stays average €303 per night—an increase of 8.2% from last year. It’s clear why many would-be travelers may want to explore other options.

While Marbella takes the lead for steep prices, the Balearic Islands and Barcelona are not much behind, with average nightly rates sitting at €194 and €187, respectively. Madrid’s hotel prices have surged by 14%, reaching €170 per night—this marks the highest jump among major Spanish cities.

On the flip side, there are plenty of budget-friendly locations within Spain. For example, Zaragoza emerges as one of the cheapest cities to stay, offering hotel rooms at about €74 per night. Meanwhile, the historical town of Granada boasts average rates of €61 for three-star hotels. Salamanca, brimming with architectural and historical marvels, provides stays at around €58.

Beyond prices, March is also the month to experience Spain’s rich culture, highlighted by various festivals. Valencia is one of the top destinations, renowned for its Las Fallas festival, which is celebrated through extravagant displays of fireworks and art. This event has been recognized as part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity and draws visitors from across the globe. The festival culminates on March 19th with the traditional “Cremà,” where the large papier-mâché sculptures are set ablaze.

While you’re soaking up the history and the heat of the flames, Valencia’s climate also offers mild temperatures perfect for enjoying strolls along its stunning beaches or exploring its historic center. The City of Arts and Sciences and the renowned Cathedral are must-visit attractions for anyone making their way to this vibrant city.

Castellón de la Plana will also celebrate its Fiestas de la Magdalena during the third week of Lent from March 22-30, 2025. These festivities commemorate the city’s origins through parades, concerts, and vibrant fireworks. Visitors can anticipate participating in the Romería de las Cañas pilgrimage during these festivities, where they experience both celebration and communal spirit.

If natural landscapes are more to your taste, the Jerte Valley transforms magnificently this March, thanks to the cherry blossom season. This stunning visual display blankets the valley, providing travelers with the opportunity to hike along the trails, marveling at the white blossoms. The Cherry Blossom Festival, celebrated toward the end of the month, deep dives invitingly through local customs and culinary traditions.

Meanwhile, the Cíes Islands, located off the Galician coast, boast stunning beaches and rich biodiversity. March is an excellent time to visit with the Xunta de Galicia offering free guided tours. It provides access to serene landscapes and uncrowded beaches, making it perfect for visitors seeking peace and scenic walks.

Comparing the cost-effective stays with the pricier locations offers travelers valuable insight. Salamanca’s blend of historical significance with affordable prices makes it the epitome of budget travel. Even the medieval charm of Cáceres, with its UNESCO-listed old town, offers quaint experiences without stretching wallets too thin.

It’s worth noting the overall rise of hotel prices, climbing 2.5% this January. Such increases mainly stem from international tourists, whose numbers grew by 4.2%, marking greater interest from abroad. Meanwhile, domestic Spanish visitors showed a slight decrease of 0.5% compared to previous months.

The takeaway for travelers to Spain as March approaches is clear: there are options for every budget, combined with exceptional natural beauty and vibrant cultural experiences. Whether you’re drawn to the festivities of Valencia, the serene cherry blossoms of Jerte Valley, or the affordability of Salamanca, Spain offers something captivating for everyone this spring.
