South Korean Telecoms Showcase AI Innovations At MWC 2025

SK Telecom, KT Corp., and LG Uplus highlight their latest advancements during the world's largest telecom exhibition.

The Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025 is set to take place from March 3 to 6, 2025, at Fira Barcelona Gran Via, featuring cutting-edge innovations from leading global tech companies, with South Korea's major telecom firms — SK Telecom, KT Corp., and LG Uplus — taking center stage to showcase their advancements in artificial intelligence (AI).

MWC is regarded as one of the world's top three technology exhibitions alongside CES and IFA, and the 2025 edition carries the theme, "Converge, Connect, Create." This theme reflects the industry's commitment to integrating diverse mobile technologies, leveraging AI to create next-generation solutions. Over 2,700 companies from more than 200 countries are expected to participate.

SK Telecom will establish its presence with an impressive 990-square-meter (10,656-square-foot) booth, which will incorporate innovative AI technologies as part of its showcase. The focus will be on enhancing AI data center capabilities, including energy-efficient solutions, AI-driven operations, and security advancements. The company will introduce technologies such as autonomous robots and real-time monitoring for data center infrastructure, marking its strategic positioning as a leader in telecom AI innovations.

KT Corp. will also make its mark at the event with its new pavilion themed "K-Street," highlighting its collaborative effort with Microsoft to bring AI innovations to light. The exhibit will feature seven sections, showcasing AI-powered business strategies, effective real-time translation technology, and enhanced security features. Among the highlights will be the demonstration of AI sports announcer capabilities, illustrating KT's advancements in the application of AI within athletic contexts.

This year marks LG Uplus’s first solo venture at MWC, where it intends to showcase its generative AI model, known as ixi-Gen, along with its innovative personal AI agent, ixi-O. The telecommunications company plans to focus heavily on trustworthy AI solutions, aiming to establish confidence among consumers through enhanced security features and products such as its AI communication agents.

With this focus on AI, the South Korean telecom sector not only showcases its technological advancements but also signifies its commitment to advancing the global telecom network. Leaders of all three companies, including SK Telecom’s President Ryu Young-sang, KT’s Kim Young-shub, and LG Uplus’s Hong Bum-shik, will be present, ready to engage with global tech leaders on fostering partnerships and growth opportunities.

KT’s exhibition will be particularly notable for its thematic representation of Korea's tech culture, modeled after their office campus, highlighting the company's AI solutions intended to optimize workplace efficiency. This includes AI-driven market analysis tools, efficient GPU management processes, and carbon footprint monitoring technology.

At the same time, LG Uplus will highlight its advanced AI security solutions, showcasing technology like deepfake detection to combat voice phishing scams and presenting future visions for user interactions through AI technology solutions.

Executives from all three telecom giants are expected to participate prominently, emphasizing their innovative approaches and future readiness as they aim to play pivotal roles at this prestigious global event. "We are rapidly preparing for the future by grasping the evolution direction of the AI industry. We will inform the world of technology and global partnerships as both wings and creating substantial results," expressed SK Telecom President Yoo Young-sang.

On the whole, the South Korean telecom companies are not just demonstrating their current achievements but are also setting the stage for future developments in telecom technology at MWC 2025, where AI will redefine the paradigms of communication and connectivity.
