South Korea Claims Dominant 4-0 Win Over Thailand

Thai women's team struggles to find form as South Korea asserts power in Pink Ladies Cup 2025.

South Korea demonstrated their strength in women's football by securing a convincing victory against Thailand during the second match of the Pink Ladies Cup 2025 football tournament, held on February 23, 2025, at the Hamriya CSC Stadium.

The match commenced with South Korea, ranked 20th globally, aggressively pushing forward against the 45th-ranked Thai team, who were desperate for redemption after their 1-3 loss to Russia. The turn of events came early when, at the 24th minute, South Korea broke the deadlock through Jung Da-bin's follow-up after Thai goalkeeper Tiffany Sonpha mishandled the ball. This opened the floodgates as South Korea led 1-0.

By the 33rd minute, South Korea doubled their lead thanks to Jo Yu-ri's impressive header from the right flank. Just before halftime, Mun Eun-joo found the back of the net, leaving Thailand trailing 3-0 at the break.

Despite making three substitutions during halftime to regain some control, including the entrance of Pichayada Manowang and Saowalak Pengngam, Thailand struggled to find their rhythm against the relentless South Korean squad.

Later, at the 74th minute, Mun Eun-joo added to Thailand's frustrations, scoring the fourth goal, firmly placing the match out of reach. The final whistle blew with Thailand facing a heavy 0-4 defeat, continuing to grapple with previous inconsistencies.

After the match, Futoshi Ikeda, the head coach of the Thai national team, disclosed his team's struggles, particularly during the first half: "The first half, the players may have lacked confidence, which made us unable to pressure the opponent as we wanted, but the second half we did muchbetter, which improved our form." This statement encapsulates the challenges faced by the team as they adapt and improve.

Ikeda elaborated on the decisive differences between the two matches, noting, "The difference between the first match and the second match, besides the players who went on the field, is about trying to play our game, and South Korea pressured usbetter than the first match, causing us not to be able to play our game."

Looking onward, the team needs to regroup quickly, with Ikeda emphasizing, "For the next game against Uzbekistan, we will look back at our game and the opponent's game and prepare the team as well as we can. We have two days for recovery." Thailand's next match will be pivotal for them, as they aim to secure their first points of the tournament when they face Uzbekistan, currently ranked 51st globally, on February 26, 2025.

The South Korean team, on the other hand, continues to build confidence and momentum with their dominant performance, eyeing the tournament's top spot. Their combination of speed, skill, and strategic teamwork has put them in a favorable position moving forward.

The Pink Ladies Cup 2025 not only showcases the top talents of women's football but also serves as a platform for developing teams like Thailand, who are aspiring to make their mark on the world football stage. A blend of international competition and national pride fuels the enthusiasm around the tournament, with fans eagerly anticipating the upcoming matches.
