Sony's February State Of Play Unveils New Gaming Titles

Newly announced games include Tides of Annihilation and Days Gone Remastered, promising exciting gameplay experiences.

Sony's State of Play event held in February 2025 has thrilled gamers around the world with new game announcements, including highly anticipated titles like Tides of Annihilation and Days Gone Remastered. After years of mixed receptions, this edition proved to be one of the most exciting showcases yet.

The spotlight shone brightly on Tides of Annihilation, developed by the newly established Eclipse Glow Games. This captivating single-player action-adventure game immerses players in a reimagined version of modern-day London, under siege from mystical forces. Gamers will take on the role of Gwendolyn, the lone survivor, as they battle not only mystical creatures but also gigantic bosses reminiscent of skyscrapers.

“Debuting Tides of Annihilation at Sony State of Play is an incredible, humbling accomplishment for the Eclipse Glow development team,” expressed Kun Fu, Lead Game Producer at Eclipse Glow Games. “It’s also just the beginning. We’ve created a world where themes of courage, loyalty, and heroism intertwine with an epic story set in a strange-yet-familiar setting.” This narrative suggests a deep engagement with story elements inspired by the Arthurian legends, offering players both intense combat and rich storytelling.

Set against the backdrop of mystical destruction, players will navigate familiar London landmarks, accompanied by spectral Knights of the Round Table. “The game blends intense, breakneck combat, immersive narrative, and unforgettable settings,” the developers assure, indicating it aims to push the action-adventure genre forward.

Adding to the excitement, Days Gone Remastered was unveiled, rekindling the interest for fans of the original title. Much anticipated updates include enhanced game modes like permadeath and Horde Assault, promising new challenges. Players who own the original can upgrade to the remastered version for just $10, fueling speculation about potential future expansions for the franchise.

Another significant announcement was the reveal of Saros, described as the "spiritual sequel" to Housemarque’s acclaimed Returnal. Adding to the intrigue, this game keeps much of its predecessor’s essence, exploring similar rogue-like elements and showcasing thrilling third person bullet-hell action. Players can expect to wield impressive weaponry, echoing the experience offered by Returnal.

Other notable mentions from the State of Play included Mindseye, produced by Leslie Benzies, which promises destructible environments and advanced shooting mechanics, along with Capcom's Onimusha: Way Of The Sword, which was surprisingly showcased instead of at Capcom's dedicated event earlier.

The announcements were accompanied by several confirmed release dates including Shinobi: Art Of Vengeance on August 29, Borderlands 4 on September 23, The Dark Pictures Anthology: Directive 8020 on October 2, and Five Nights At Freddy’s: Secret Of The Mimic on June 13. Speculation suggests more surprises may be revealed later, with dedicated State of Play events planned for the spring.

The upcoming gaming calendar appears packed as The Midnight Walk arrives on May 8 and Metal Gear Solid Delta arrives soon after on August 28. The event left many hopeful about the PlayStation 5’s future and the direction of its game library.

This year’s State of Play signals Sony's commitment to enhancing the gaming experience, focusing on both storytelling and engaging gameplay mechanics. With promising titles on the horizon, it seems gamers have plenty to look forward to.
