A shocking incident unfolded at a supermarket in Anápolis, Goiás, on Saturday, February 8, when an 18-year-old woman's smartphone exploded unexpectedly, injuring her and provoking panic among shoppers.
According to local reports, the young woman was doing her shopping when the explosion occurred. She experienced intense heat before realizing her smartphone was on fire, igniting her clothing and causing first and second-degree burns on her left side, including her hand, forearm, and buttock. Witnesses reacted quickly, with some rushing to assist her as others alerted the Corpo de Bombeiros de Goiás (Goiás Fire Department). Emergency responders provided first aid on-site and transported her to the Hospital Alfredo Abraão for specialized treatment. Fortunately, she was later discharged the same day, but not without enduring severe emotional and physical trauma.
"I didn't notice any signs of overheating before the explosion," the victim reported to the firefighters, expressing disbelief at the suddenness of the incident. The smartphone, identified as a Motorola E32, was burned and partially melted after the accident, highlighting the potentially dangerous consequences of smartphone battery malfunctions.
