Siri Finally Supports Vietnamese Language After 14 Years

Vietnamese users can now interact with Siri, enhancing accessibility and smart home integration.

After 14 long years of waiting, Apple’s virtual assistant, Siri, is finally available in Vietnamese, bringing joy to millions of iPhone users across Vietnam. Siri, known for its sophisticated language capabilities, can now interact with users entirely in their native tongue, thanks to the release of the iOS 18.4 Developer Beta on February 22, 2025.

The support for Vietnamese has been highly anticipated, especially as other popular virtual assistants like Google Assistant have already embraced the language. Now, Vietnamese speakers can engage with Siri to make calls, send messages, and search for information without the barrier of language. This advancement shows Apple’s commitment to enhancing the user experience for its diverse customer base.

To enable Vietnamese language support, users need to have devices compliant with iOS 18.4, which includes models from iPhone 11 to iPhone 16 Pro Max. The activation process is relatively straightforward. Users must first register for the Developer Beta by accessing Settings > General > Software Update > Beta Updates and select iOS 18 Developer Beta. The download and installation can take anywhere from 30 minutes to over an hour, depending on network speed and device model.

Once successfully updated, users will navigate to Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri (or Siri for earlier models) and select Vietnamese as the language option. It’s important to note, as highlighted by users from the tech community, "Siri có tiếng Việt là tin không thể vui hơn với cộng đồng người dùng smart home tại Việt Nam," says Thái Hưng, who manages a popular smartphone community. This is seen as more than just a feature; it’s viewed as a significant addition for smart home technology, where Siri can now house control commands for various appliances using everyday language.

When using Siri, users have the option of four distinct voices to choose from, ensuring not only functionality but also personal responsiveness. Commands can be issued through the familiar phrase "Hey, Siri," and users will be prompted to read five sample sentences aloud. These training dialogues help Siri recognize and accurately interpret Vietnamese pronunciations, enhancing the overall interaction quality.

Despite this advancement, some constraints remain. Users have reported challenges when attempting to access Apple Intelligence features through Siri when set to the Vietnamese language. The integration of artificial intelligence, which would make Siri even more responsive and intelligent, is not yet available and is projected to be supported by 2025.

What makes this update more impactful is the positive feedback from the community of smart home users. “With Siri supporting Vietnamese, many people who rely on Apple’s HomeKit platform for smart home management will greatly benefit. This will not only improve their user experience but also encourage the use of Apple products among Vietnamese speakers,” remarks Thái Hưng, celebrating the increase of accessibility permeated through technology.

For those eager to experience Siri’s Vietnamese capabilities, it’s clear this latest update marks significant progress. Apple has committed to integrating more languages and enhancing its AI features throughout the year, alongside announced support for Mandarin, Indian English, Singaporean English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish. The upcoming official release of iOS 18.4 is expected sometime next month, which will open up these capabilities to all users, not just those enrolled in the beta program.

This momentous step signals Apple’s recognition of the diverse linguistic needs of its users and sets the stage for more comprehensive support across its software ecosystem. Vietnamese users are no longer restricted by language limitations, allowing them to fully engage with one of the world’s leading virtual assistants potentially paving the way for even wider adoption of Siri throughout the Vietnamese smart home market.

With this evolution, Apple continues not only to innovate but to listen and respond to the needs of its global audience. Siri speaking Vietnamese is more than just technological advancement; it creates opportunities for users to feel seen and heard within the digital space.
