Singaporean Tourists Injured In Finland Bus Crash

Several travelers discharged as investigation begins after deadly collision with minibus

A bus crash involving tourists from Singapore occurred on December 19, 2023, when their tour bus collided with a minibus near Rovaniemi, Finland. The collision resulted in injuries for several travelers, as well as tragic fatalities.

According to reports, the accident took place around 1 PM local time, when the minibus, attempting to overtake another vehicle, collided head-on with the coach carrying the tourists. Of the 37 individuals taken to the hospital, the majority were from Singapore and China. Tragically, the minibus driver and one passenger lost their lives at the scene.

The coach was returning from the scenic Santa Claus Village, located just 30 minutes away from where the incident occurred. The travelers were part of a 13-day, 10-night tour organized by Chan Brothers, who reported on the situation through local media.

Chan Brothers ensured immediate medical attention for their tour members, stating, "This incident underscored the importance of seatbelt use..." The tour agency confirmed there were 29 tourists from Singapore along with the tour manager and bus driver on the coach. All sustained minor injuries but were eventually discharged from the hospital after precautionary examinations.

Despite the crash, the group continued their tour, spending the final two nights in Rovaniemi. Chan Brothers dispatched additional tour managers to assist the injured travelers and maintain continuity for the group. The company emphasized the victory of having adhered to safety measures, with all passengers wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident.

Overall, the Finnish police have stated they are conducting investigations to determine the precise causes of the collision. The police are currently assessing potential traffic violations as the minivan driver is suspected of negligent homicide and negligent injury.

Footage released by Finnish media showcased the significant damage inflicted upon the tour bus, particularly to its front and windshield, showing the impact of the collision. The minibus, on the other hand, was mangled beyond recognition.

During the aftermath, Finnish authorities have communicated with the respective embassies of the countries affected to provide necessary assistance and coordination.

The tragic incident highlights the necessity of thorough travel safety protocols. Chan Brothers echoed sentiments underscoring the importance of travel insurance and comprehensive safety measures whenever embarking on trips overseas.

With police still investigating and inquiries continuing, the situation remains fluid. The company has received numerous inquiries expressing concern over the safety and well-being of its clients and staff. Nevertheless, as this story develops, both tourists and families can take solace knowing their safety was prioritized during this unexpected calamity.
