Silent Witness Returns With New Cases And Relationship Twists

New series set to air starting January 6, featuring old favorites and fresh faces at the Lyell Centre.

Silent Witness has returned for yet another series on the BBC, with the team of forensic pathologists at the Lyell Centre solving yet more complex cases. Series 28 will have five new cases for the group to deal with, starting off with the death of an elderly woman whose body is found in a cave. Alongside the usual crime-drama storylines, the relationship between Dr. Nikki Alexander (Emilia Fox) and Jack Hodgson (David Caves) progresses after Jack's proposal at the end of Series 27.

Discussing with the Radio Times about how this story would play out, Fox said: “I think the interesting dynamic is... sort of a running theme through the series is Jack has got his mind on working out what a good wedding will be for them.”

Nikki’s character appears to be somewhat reluctant, as Fox noted, “Nikki’s a little bit in denial about it, like the organisation of wedding preparation and what kind of wedding they’re going to have at this stage in their lives, which I think is a really interesting thing.”

Fox added: “[They're] two people who have been great friends and have loved each other and supported each other in different ways. Then they’ve admitted their love for each other and come together, and then seeing whether they can work together and have a relationship together.”

She elaborated on their commitment, stating, “Then this is this next stage of commitment and what it means. And so, Harriet (Maggie Steed) and Kit (Francesca Mills) coming in also give those eyes on how they’re both doing withthat and with the preparations. There’s lovely little insights – there’s three females with Jack... so there’s real fun withthat.”

The regular members of the cast of Silent Witness include: Emilia Fox as Dr. Nikki Alexander, David Caves as Jack Hodgson, Maggie Steed as Harriet Maven, and Francesca Mills as Kit Brooks.

Guest stars for Series 28 will include: Sean Pertwee as DI John Flynn, Lisa Davina Phillip as Blessing, Iman Marson as Ollie, Jason Callender as Gary Baxter, David Hargreaves as Benjamin Dawson, and Amy Booth-Steel as PC Greenwood.

The first episode of Series 28 will air at 9 PM on BBC One on Monday, January 6. The two-part episodes will follow the same pattern on the subsequent day, with new stories available on BBC iPlayer from January 6 at 6 AM.
